Audiovisual video eyeglass distraction during dental treatment in children."General behavior during the AVD sessions, as rated by the Houpt scales, was excellent (rating 6) for 70% of the children, very good (rating 5) for 19%, good (rating 4) for 6%, and fair, poor, or aborted for only 5%. Circumplex Model of Affect: A Measure of Pleasure and Arousal During Virtual Reality Distraction Analgesia"Compared with pain stimulation in the control (baseline, no VR) condition, immersive VR distraction significantly reduced subjective pain intensity (P < 0.001). Differential effects of two virtual reality interventions: distraction versus pain control."Results showed that in comparison with the control condition, the VRC (environment designed towards pain control) intervention significantly increased pain tolerance, the pain sensitivity range, and the degree of time underestimation. Virtual Reality Analgesia in Labor: The VRAIL Pilot Study—A Preliminary Randomized Controlled Trial Suggesting Benefit of Immersive Virtual Reality Analgesia in Unmedicated Laboring Women"This pilot study investigated the use of virtual reality (VR) in laboring women. Twenty-seven women were observed for equivalent time during unmedicated contractions in the first stage of labor both with and without VR (order balanced and randomized). Numeric rating scale scores were collected after both study conditions. Significant decreases in sensory pain −1.5 (95% CI, −0.8 to −2.2), affective pain −2.5 (95% CI, −1.6 to −3.3), cognitive pain −3.1 (95% CI, −2.4 to −3.8), and anxiety −1.5 (95% CI, −0.8 to −2.3) were observed during VR.
