A budgeting doc Jeff & Kirstie use for personal expenses. Kirstie wanted to use and pay for YNAB and Jeff said he could make a free version himself. They may or may not have gotten in lots of fights about this during that time period.

We follow the YNAB mentality of "every dollar has a job", so we have budget amounts for each category. If we want to expand on a category and it exceeds our budget (for example, go on more vacations), we take it from another category (for example, my clothing budget).

Jeff would like to adamantly express that he belives using free software like Mint is less confusing and would be more useful for everybody, but he is happy to share his sheet. We both have tried to make it as easy to use as possible.

Also just a quick note on why we personally budget- I have come to find a truth over decades of tracking my spending that I always spend more on me and less on others than I intend and think I do. I have always tracked my money and the hope is that the mindfulness allows our household and marriage to be a blessing to others first and foremost. Hebrews 13:16: "Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God." Matthew 6:21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." (also in harry potter, lol)
