Overview:
15
StrengthsNotes
16
FluidityHis hip levels, change of direction, and pass rush moves are all incredibly fluid. High-level athlete through and through.
17
Speed to PowerLeg drive and initial push upon making contact is great for a speed rusher. He typically take great angles to maximize leverage.
18
BurstTurner can accelerate quickly in any direction and reach full speed in as many paces as most wide receivers.
19
20
WeaknessesNotes
21
Inside Run PenetrationWhile his edge setting is slowly improving, his penetration on inside runs is non-existent.
22
TacklingPoor tackler who does not appear to understand wrap-up technique.
23
Hand FightingHe gets good initial position with his hands often, but they are knocked away rather easily. Once his hands are out of the play, he typically is as well.

GameTakeaways
27
Ole Miss (09/23/2023)Not winning with strength. Great extension and leg drive on bull rush. Does not blow through tight end. Good effort and lateral movements, but appears rather weak after initial burst of speed to power. Uses extension really well. Solid arm over after bull rush. Initial pass rush reps mostly look identical, and would be more effective if he gained a bit more mass. Quick upper body movements. Prefers direct route to the quarterback as opposed to bending, but his bend would probably be great if he used it more intentionally. Consistent second moves. Not a good run defender. Pushed off of gap very easily. Hilarious dive selling the hold. Crisp lateral movements. Not an edge setter. Better run game rep with his spacing and angles. Tries to out muscle opponent too often. Good closing burst. Pass rush reps with efficient release footwork have been more effective. Great dip to switch up typical bull rush.Looks like the same player he was last year. Good pass rusher with a limited pass rush move pool, and a poor run defender. Mid-late 1st round tape
28
Tennessee (10/21/2023)Great efficiency and angle on release from two-point stance. Poor penetration attempt on inside run. Fluid hips in space. Clearly a 3-4 OLB. Superb lateral acceleration for the position. Better edge setting on multiple reps than in games prior. Great single-step acceleration. Never squared up before tackle attempt, causing frequent whiffs. Comfortable dropping into coverage. Good hand placement and initial speed to power on long arm. Must be at full speed to apply pressure with his weight. Bend not as good this game as advertised. Hands were mitigated on pass rush move. Good leg drive. Often pushed beyond the pocket on speed rushes. Sack was the quarterback's error. Day two tape at best. Not asked to freely rush the passer for much of this game. Difficult overall assessment, but outperformed by his teammate Braswell. Day 2 OLB tape.
29
Georgia (12/02/2023)Fluid open field hips. Appears heavier than earlier in the season. Can drop into man coverage. Efficient release from two point stance. Great acceleration. Quick hands. Good speed to power from the edge. Very good leg drive. Excellent wide rusher with great angles and speed to power.High potential, but still is not an every down impact player. Mid-late first.

AttributesGrade / 100Notes
32
AttributesBend88Great bend, but could improve for the caliber of athlete he is.
33
Burst94Excellent burst. Highly explosive, but could work on his release efficiency.
34
Motor91Great drive and effort, but too content having his upper body locked up.
35
SkillsetPass Rush92His natural ability is out of this world, but his technique and refinement need work.
36
Run Defense63While he has not contributed much in run defense, he should set the edge better as a 3-4 OLB.
37
Coverage95Cannot get much better in coverage for a defensive lineman.
38
HandsPlacement88Good initial hand placement, but must work on using his hands to gain an advantage.
39
Effectiveness78Great extension on power rushes, but not as much effective utilization elsewhere.
40
Quickness91Vey quick hands, but could be much quicker considering his caliber of athlete.
41
Line ControlStrength73Steadily improving.
42
Balance86His balance should improve with more experience countering offensive tackles.
43
Pass-RushVersatility80Must improve pass rush move pool, but still has several effective go-tos.
44
Technique78His hands, feet, and understanding of how to win one-on-one must improve for him to be productive.
45

Final Scouting Report
51
Dallas Turner is as fluid of an athlete as there is. He has excellent speed to power, change of direction, finesse, open field movement skills, and can even drop into man coverage. He has an efficient and explosive release at the line of scrimmage, is fluid in all aspects of the game, and has improved his tackling over the course of the season. After adding roughly 10lbs since 2022, his power profile improved immensely. Out of any player in the draft, Turner seems like one of the most "can't miss" prospects out there based on his athleticism and versatility if utilized correctly in the right system.

Despite all of his gifts, Turner still fails to make an every down impact. He is a poor run defender, especially on the inside, and is sometimes just mitigated by opposing tackles on the pass rush. While his initial hand placement is good on power rushes, his overall hand usage still leaves a lot to be desired. There is no doubt that he will be at least serviceable wherever he ends up, but has a long ways to go with regard to technique before reaching his potential. The good news is that he will be 21-years-old throughout his entire rookie season, and is still visibly maturing physically. If he can continue to add muscle mass as he has over the last year at Alabama, then the sky is the limit for his ultimate potential.
