PURPOSE: Tests provide an introduction to the discipline of Western Dressage; the horse performs only at the walk and jog. The rider should demonstrate correct basic position, use of basic aids, and understanding of the figures. The horse should show relaxation; harmony between horse and rider is important. The horse accepts the aids and influence of the rider. The jog should be a natural gait within the horse's scope and should demonstrate a swinging back.JUDGEJanice Mumford

4Rider’s Correct and Effective Use of the AidsEvidenced by the horse's responsiveness; steady elastic connection cultivating athletic expression. Accuracy - precise placement of the figures and transitions, the effectiveness of the rider's aids determines the accurate fulfillment of the required movements of the tests66lifting inside hand on corners and 1/2 circles, more effective leg aids

Work to develop better bending aids to improve lateral supplenes and connection to bit. Much potential with improved basics.

On centerlines and diagonals keep your right leg on lightly at the girth to help keep the right shoulder from falling right. Lower your forearms so there is a more direct line from hand to bit. Keep your shoulder & head level on 1/2 circles & corners. When turning turn inside wrist outward so the thumb comes up to create bend not by lifting your hand. As you turn your wrist as turning a key also keep your legs on the horse. The 4 second halt needs to be secure before the move off. This means if he moves his feet start the count over. Prepare transitions when in the corner by first applying a light bending aid (turn the key) to maintain connection. When turning across the diagonal turn the outside shoulder at the letter to improve straightness, then keep the letter you are riding to between the horse's ears. If he starts to drift apply the leg first before. At the right 1/2 circle at E put a cone at the centerline point. About a stride before E turn your hips slightly and focus at the cone over the centerline. You wil turn your inside wrist like turning a key and keep both legs on for straightness.
