Unit 1: Los jóvenes de hoy

Unit Duration: 1 quarter
Goal/Focus of Unit: Students will be able to relate with youth from Spain in order to express similarities and differences regarding the usage of their free time. Students will be able to interpret videos, blogs, and podcasts created by youth in Spain in order to get to know Spain and to know what Spanish youth do in their free time. Students will be able to explore, explain and reflect on how young, intercultural citizens of today help to create a better world.

Common Vocabulary/Topics: free time, student vacations, "El Rastro" open air market and other places frequented by Spanish youth, exams in Spain, languages spoken in Spain in addition to Spanish, useful expressions, adjectives to describe people, review of present-tense forms to express wants, abilities, and preferences, review of uses of ser and estar and when to use them, daily routine, review of reflexive verbs, review of regular preterite tense and regular imperfect tense to discuss events which have already happened, and review of direct object pronouns.
