Intensive Summer Multilanguage Seminar (MULTI) at UW-Madison

Program supports online, performance-based self-instructional less commonly taught language study for students who have achieved such an advanced language proficiency that traditional programs no longer serve their learning needs, or students who are studying extremely rare languages that are otherwise not offered in the classroom. This program is intended to complement existing summer language programs; as such, students who are eligible to enroll in a traditional language program are not competitive candidates for the Intensive Summer Multilanguage Seminar.

Tuition for the MULTI Summer 2024 session is set at $5,000 for out of state students (in-state WI and MN-reciprocity students pay standard UW-Madison tuition rates)

Students may be eligible to receive a Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) award to support African, Southeast Asian, and South Asian language study.

Eligibility is limited to students of least commonly or never taught African, Southeast Asian, and South Asian languages and students at post-advanced levels of study in African, Southeast Asian, and South Asian languages where conventional instructional options do not exist
Eligibility is limited to graduate students with advanced expertise in the target language or another language directly relevant to the student’s professional goals
Final determination of eligibility is linked to the submission and approval of the fellow’s individualized plan of study by an International and Foreign Language Education (IFLE) program officer in the manner of an independent study.

Middle Eastern & Mediterranean Language Institute (MEDLI) at UW-Madison

Arabic (Elementary, Intermediate, Advanced levels)

Tuition for the MEDLI Summer 2024 session is set at $5,000. This cost includes tuition, student fees, segregated fees, and expenditures for cultural events. Tuition charged to MEDLI students is based on standard UW-Madison summer tuition rates. This does not include the cost of textbooks, living expenses, health insurance, or the new student document fee ($130). WI & MN resident students pay the standard tuition rates for 8 academic credits as listed on the UW Bursar’s Office Website.

Room & Board not included in overall program fees. Students are free to apply for summer housing in the dorms, or rent or sublet campus area housing (rent prices vary).

"The Middle Eastern and Mediterranean Language Institute (MEDLI) is an eight-week summer intensive language program for undergraduate and graduate students, professionals, and non-traditional students. Students learn speaking, reading, listening, and writing skills through classroom instruction and a full range of co-curricular activities. Students will receive 8 credits and a letter grade (A-F) after completing program. MEDLI participants must complete both 4-week sessions for a total of 8 weeks. Courses meet from 8:30AM-1:00PM, Monday-Friday.
