58 | THE KARMA GARDEN: 'Hey RD.ROCKS — in the 1st part of The Practice (Renunciation), it says we commit to "identify and set wise boundaries" for our process (behavioral) addictions... but when I ask others about it, nobody has a clue where begin. And the book doesn't even talk about what boundaries are, or why they help! I keep lapsing on my Process Addictions. Please help?'
59 | garden.rd.rocks | 🪴 Does your Process Addiction feel like a moving target? Do you keep “relapsing?” Are you or others—especially substance addicts—(unconsciously) shaming you for it? Is that shame aiding your progress, or is it actually holding you back? In Process Addictions, daily lapses are common, unlike in the Substance Addiction world, where continuous cleantime is supposedly the norm. This disconnect has long hindered our recovery. Substance addicts may be required to stop facilitating meetings after a lapse, and we’re often held to the same standard. Because of those standards from other programs unthinkingly being brought into Buddhist Recovery, it strips us of the very service opportunities that could be the breakthrough we need for healing in our recovery. When someone asks, ‘How many days do you have?’ I now respond with, ‘How do you fully renounce technology, people, food, love?’ With some thought, usually they begin to grasp the complexity of process addictions. For process addictions, progress isn’t about daycounts but the reduction of harmful behavior — for example, I'll say, "Well, I’ve gone from acting out 365 days a year to just 12. By traditional measures, I might seem like a failure every 4 weeks, but to me, going from 365 to 12 times a year is straight up a miracle. Daycounting doesn’t define my personal journey, and I appreciate your understanding and nonjudgment." In Buddhist Recovery, we tackle all addictions. But haven’t had a way to measure progress--clearly daycounting is an incomplete picture of our holistic recovery journey. We don't have a clear path suggested nor laid out. We are supposed to set boundaries around our harmful behaviors but nobody has explained how. We need a new approach that isn’t just about the time since our last slip but incorporates our unique experiences. After 40 years of struggling with sex addiction, I’ve developed a simple Process Addiction recovery tool called the ‘Karma Garden.’ Step by step the Karma Garden helps us solidify sets of boundaries by using inquiries. So if you’re interested in instructions on how to finally "identify and set wise boundaries " around your process addiction, I implore you to give it a try. Your recovery is worth it and so are you. 🪴 garden.rd.rocks | 📺 presented with BRN: https://youtube.com/watch?v=bOABFDnmeHI

97 | recoverydharmarocks@gmail.com | rd.rocks started as my personal spreadsheet—I needed to organize everything I learned about Recovery Dharma & Buddhism. I wanted to keep track of Buddhist lists, favorite meetings, links to meditation scripts, etc. Then I showed admirable friends, who basically said, "dude, this rocks. can I reshare it?" So I made it public. rd.rocks is a trip. it's simply made of a bunch of bookmarks. this page itself (even though it says RD.rocks at the top) is just a bookmark of a Google Sheet. It works by simply typing in whatever you want, like "book" followed by ".rd.rocks" and it takes you to a corresponding bookmark. • if I needed meeting slides? slides.rd.rocks ⏎ (I type it, hit enter, and *SHAZAM* I got slides!) • if I needed the RD book? book.rd.rocks ⏎ • if I need the facebook group? facebook.rd.rocks ⏎ • if I wanted the audiobook? audiobook.rd.rocks ⏎ • if I wanted the meetings list? meetings.rd.rocks | affinity.rd.rocks
