1	Describing Characters Using the following traitsm create a character profile. You can used the provided text Ho'onani, Hula Warrior or a book of your choosing. Character Name What does the character say? How does the character look like? What does the character do in the story?	What can we learn by observing animals? Choose on of the explore livecams and observe animals from around the world. Draw what you observe and label your drawing. What do you notice about the animal? What do you notice? Return to the same webcam at a different time and/or a different day. What do you observe that is the same? What is different?

3	Retell the Story* Use the following story elements to retell the story To Be A Drum Who are the main characters? How do you know? What is the setting of the story or where does it take place? What happens in the story? What problem/s do the main characters have? How do they solve those problems? How does the story end? *Use the text provided or choose your favorite read aloud. Retelling is an important comprehension still for students still learning to decode. Read Alouds also model fluent reading for students.	Watch the Documentary We Are Still Here Write or tell a family member what you learned about Native People.

5	How do elements help you understand the story? Read or Listen to Story Elements Song. Read or watch the Read Aloud Henry's Freedom Box. Who are the main characters? Where does the story take place? What's the problem in the story? What's the solution to the problem?	Finding Sequence in a Story Watch the video Finding Sequence in a Story Watch the realoud Drawn Together Retell the Story using First, Next, Last Write or Orally retell the story. Remind student that a story has a Beginning (First), a Middle (Next) and an End (Last).

Do they have any negative traits? Copy the graphic organizer on a piece of paper and use words and/or pictures to describe the character traits of the character you chose.	Read or watch the read aloud Soldier for Equality. What do the characters do and say to demonstrate the Big Idea?
