General comment: We have already seen that the simplistic analysis of city to undergraduate student ratio doesnt tell us enough. My sense is that this would work best if we could turn it into a multi-variate analysis, and have enough key datapoints in order to get a decently high confidence interval in that analysis. I started this with major research universities which are near-peers of UC Davis, but I have been accused of bias for not including "small" college towns which are functionally dissimmilar to UCD ( Cal Poly SLO for example, has a research budget of $25k as opposed to UCD's near $1 Billion.) The way to have it both ways, I think, it to get all of the data into model that we can, and then let that data do the talking. I think that means having a seperate column for graduate and PHD student populations, another for the research dollar budget, in addition to the ones like "population within 30 miles" ( by the way.. maybe 30 miles isnt the right number?? and "average days on market" for real estate... I dont have the bandwidth to do this all myself.... and I want this to be a good analysis... so please let me know your thoughts. comment in this cell on these topics.
