CCPS Elementary Books Approved for Classroom Use

Press "Control" and "F" at the same time and a seach bar will appear in the upper right hand side of the spreadhseet. Type in the title or author you wish to search for and you will be directed to those titles if they exist in the spreadsheet.

According to F.S.1006.28, “Each book made available to students through a school district library media center or included in a recommended or assigned school or grade-level reading list must be selected by a school district employee who holds a valid educational media specialist certificate, regardless of whether the book is purchased, donated, or otherwise made available to students.” Prior to adding material to a teacher’s non-adopted reading list or classroom library, the material is required to be reviewed and approved by a school librarian, media specialist, or other certificated personnel who have successfully completed the training program developed by the Florida Department of Education.

When developing a classroom library or reading list, teachers are to refer to the Charlotte County Public Schools Approved Non-Adopted Reading List and choose titles from the appropriate grade-level band. If a book is not included on the approved list, it is the responsibility of the teacher to submit a request to the media specialist for review & selection of the material (please refer to the digital Request for Media Specialist Book Review form for further directions.

Note: Approved lists are under constant revision based on guidance from the school board attorney as well as updates in statutes and state board rules. Individual titles may be added or removed from the list frequently. This is an evolving document that should be checked frequently for updates.

Prior to making any book available to students, the teacher must read the book and ensure that it is age-appropriate for their students.
