High Level Gameplay was Frustrating - It felt extremely difficult and punishing to do anything except for pick all the ranged damage characters, build the exact same items, and sit back and poke until they got low or tried to engage. A good snooker felt basically impossible to deal with unless you had full dive, and their team sucked. Lack of High Skill Mechanics - Feels very off coming from Stunlock Studio games, Fangs, and even omega strikers. Biggest offender that I couldn't get over was jumps and blinks not being I-frames felt weird and annoying. | ||

In Omega the ball moves to fast. It is more reaction based. Combat in Omega feels it hast to little impact in the game. The Charakter and abilitys where fun tho. Next League of Legends. It is hard to compare these two games, because it targets different audience in my opinion. I like the WASD movement over the Mouse movement more. I think it is also hard to get Info LOL as a new Player because of the amount of Champs and items. I played LOL in the Beta and after they added 20+ Champs i quit because my main Champ got "replaced" by a better Version. Also If you aren't playing LOL, the Viewing experience is not so good. Same goes for DotA. Next Hots.i didn't play much Hots. But the round that i played felt kina boring because your solo impact in the games felt like 0. Also Same issues like LOL and DotA. Lastly Fangs. I think Fangs hast also a good take in the genre but the game feels very much more unfinished then sparkball. And i could see that the game maybe has the same issues as Battlerite in terms of Long Term enjoyability. Also the communication from the devs in sparkball ist something i never saw in any other Alpha/Beta so far. It is really really good. When I logged in to join the early access ascension weekend, the first few games were overwhelming for sure, but I hardly even noticed that when my screen popped me into dunk town and the vivid colors of our teams bullpen loaded. One problem I have is maintaining my attention span for long periods of time. It becomes especially problematic in long ARAM games when the death timers turn into a minute+. I was curious to see how this game would hold my attention and there was no doubt about it - I somehow blinked and have logged 50 hours playing Sparkball this weekend, and I HAD A BLAST! The games were ultra competitive, the matchmaking worked well, and they even had extra features in the client that I wasn't expecting for an early access test like voice comms and lobbying with friends. The community was also great - I've never had such an intertwined experience where you can go from ending a game, and celebrating or giving props to the other players in the discord channel -- it was natural and seamless. I think this weekend I played almost 150 games of Sparkball - I couldn't get enough. The craziest part though to me, is I had way more fun than I've ever had playing League. I mean that sincerely - the game draws you in with such a simple premise and hooks you with the tug-of-war nature that accompanies close games and clutch moments. If by some miracle this game does not become funded, I have no doubts there are enough players that would put up the money themselves after the experience this weekend :) |

I understand its early in development however the game feels boring to look at. After some time the particle effects get too much for you to be able to tell what abilities the enemies are using. | the menu feels very awkward without any music. I believe that execute should only come from active damage. I would also consider looking into making mounting more of a commitment. I may be in the minority here, so I understand if it makes a comeback and will still play the heck out of the game, but I am the type of person who won't take a new champion into ranked in League or try out new strategies in Valorant competitive. I personally don't care much about my ranking in games, but I understand others do, and I don't want to be that person going into their game actively ruining their goals just because I wanted to play something new or try a new build. I did get two friends to play with me this weekend and both of them got frustrated after some disconnects occurred and they saw their MMR number actively drop. Even though I knew they didn't really care about their MMR the fact everyone else did and it seemed so centric to the test made them get mad despite the fact they had no interest competing in the tournament. The MMR also led to the infamous four stacking debacle, which did reduce my enjoyment of the game on Sunday evening and Monday. I was primarily four stacking with people to keep my game quality up. I wanted to reduce the odds of people leaving and have fun with other people who enjoyed the game. However, when you implemented the rule, I was at 1600 MMR and I thought playing in the tournament will also be a blast (even though I'm probably going to get destroyed) so I decided to stop four stacking casually to not risk it. This also led me to not push harder for any of my friends to play with me, not only because I would have to teach them the game, which would inevitably lower my MMR, but I could also no longer 4 stack with them even though they were new to the game. In addition, a few people said this on the discord, the optimal thing to do on Monday (if you cared about your MMR) was to not play at all. If I hadn't played a single game on Monday I would have been top 20 and gotten guaranteed access to the tournament. I didn't complain in the discord, because most of my losses weren't to bugs, but I did lose around 100 MMR to bugs that day and I only got a bye into the tourney because you decided to extend the players to top 55. I saw your response to these complaints was something like "well the level of play has gotten higher, I was 1600 and now I'm 1400", which I agree with wholeheartedly. However, I don't think the mindset of "guess I won't play at all on the last day to avoid losing my spot because play has gotten better" is very beneficial for your goal of showing great metrics of play time. I was having too much fun with your game to not play, but I can fully empathize with the mindset that I was being punished for playing your game while other top MMR players just didn't engage. That is not a good mindset to foster on any level if you are trying to get people in the door. I believe that having no way to play without the MMR directly in your face was great for one play test to show you have rabid competitive fans, but every modern game is carried by having a large casual player base, not just a small competitive one. If you have no casuals you won't have people to watch your Esports or enough eyeballs on your cosmetics to get significant sales. If the game is good the competitive scene will grow, almost in spite of you. Look at Smash and CS:GO, these devs have almost no input or impact on competitive play, yet the scenes exist and are strong. We saw where a major focus on competitive got Battlerite, I beg you not to make the same mistake because I want to play your game for a long time coming. | 5 | 5 | 3 | 5 | 5 | LoL, Rougelites (Enter the Gungeon, Binding of Isaac, Risk of Rain 2, etc) | Never played Fangs | This is the most fun I have had since I played League of Legends for the first time. I believe I had this much fun because you have found a beautiful balance between player interaction and objective gameplay. Games like Battlerite had an issue bringing in casual players because you have no other option than to fight, and if the other players are better than you then you have just got to get rocked with no chance to try a different approach. Games like League and Dota have an issue bringing in casual players because there is so much going on. You have to learn last hitting, jungling, laning phase, and so on. Which all distract you from the most fun part of the game, fighting. The fact that Sparkball is a game about continuous fighting where you still have to win through and objective is what makes it so addicting to me. The simplicity and straightforward nature of "control the ball" allows players to focus on the fun of fighting while still having the opportunity to find openings to win if the other team seems to have better mechanics. The ball does not distract from the addicting, face paced fights, but enhances them through giving players shields and speed boost while disabling their movement ability. No matter what you are always in the action and you always feel like you can win. That's what I would consider the perfect video game combination. |
