Office of Charter Schools25-30Undergraduate Policy and Research Intern1The Office of Charter Schools intern will work on projects directly impacting the 200+ NC charter schools. The intern will primarily work with OCS on short-term projects that span across various areas of the charter landscape, such as policy, authorizing, best practices, and innovation. Additionally, the intern would be expected conduct research related to charter school issues as necessary. Tasks for the upcoming summer would include, but not be limited to, assisting with accessible communication updates, school accountability and compliance tasks, resource and manual reviews, and charter and K-12 research to inform best practices within the office. - Open to any post-secondary degree level

Office of Digital Teaching and Learning25-30Research and Data Analyst Intern1The intern will be responsible for analyzing professional development initiatives by collecting and evaluating data on participation and effectiveness. They will assess how professional development opportunities align with the needs of educators and districts and provide recommendations to enhance digital teaching and learning. Additionally, the intern will evaluate the effectiveness of NCSIS adoption in schools and districts, identify challenges and best practices, and develop data visualizations to communicate insights on teacher and student engagement with NCSIS. -Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Education, Data Science, Public Policy, or a related field.
-Strong analytical and research skills with experience in quantitative and qualitative methods.
-Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and statistical software (e.g., R, Python, or SPSS) is a plus.
-Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Office of Communications25-30Communications Intern1The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) Communications team is seeking a dynamic and motivated Communications Intern for the summer. This opportunity offers hands-on experience in communications strategy and planning while supporting various projects and initiatives. The intern will be responsible for supporting communications planning and strategy development, conducting social listening, contributing to narrative change planning, assisting with community outreach and engagement, enhancing internal communications efforts, managing public records requests, building and maintaining a story bank, and assessing and editing listservs. Ideal candidates will be currently enrolled in a degree program related to communications, social media, marketing, or journalism.


Qualifications:

Office of Communications25-30Intern Archivist1The Department is seeking a detail-oriented archivist intern to assist with organizing, preserving and digitizing archival materials. The intern will work with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction to improve the organization and processes of our system for archiving and transferring documents to the State Archives of North Carolina. This internship offers hands-on experience in archival management and research. -Familiarity with Archival Practices and Historical Preservation

Office of Research and Promising Practices25-30Graduate Research Intern1The Office of Research and Promising Practices (RPP) at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will be conducting research focused on identifying, elevating, and scaling promising educational practices across the state. To support this effort, we are seeking a graduate student intern to assist with literature reviews and qualitative data collection. The intern will contribute to a systematic review of research on pre-identified students and teacher outcomes (e.g., teacher retention, early literacy achievement) that are aligned with NCDPI soon to be released strategic plan, as well as assist in gathering and analyzing qualitative data from select schools and educators.- Current masters or advanced degree students
