Biotechnology Certificate Program
Description: Our program prepares students for careers as entry-level technicians in biotechnology and life sciences laboratories. Over a 7-month program, divided into two semesters and coupled with a 12-week paid industry internship, students master the cutting-edge technical skills, instrumentation, and quality control measures required to work as entry-level lab technicians. Each semester follows a thoughtful workflow that incorporates practice of industrial methods to prepare students for work in the thriving biosciences economy. In addition to hands-on technical laboratory training, students are mentored by industry professionals and learn valuable career skills including communication, critical thinking, teamwork, and time management.

Over the first four years of the program, 78% of students enrolled have graduated and 90% of our graduates have begun working in the biotechnology industry or enrolled in college to study science. Annual starting salaries of our recent graduates range from $34,000 to $56,000. Our alumni have been hired full-time at companies on the North Shore, Boston, and Cambridge.

Time commitment: Full-time program: 8:30a to 2:30p, Monday – Friday, September through February

Career Forge
Description: Career Forge is a training program that prepares career-ready people (“Forgers”) for technical roles, while partnering with hiring teams in our network to connect Black, Latinx, first-generation college students, transitioning adults, and associates and bachelor’s degree holders to meaningful career opportunities in biotech. The program provides both in-lab technical training and workplace competency training to prepare Forgers to enter the field as Research Assistants and Quality Control Analysts.

Eligibility requirements: Applicants must identify as Black, Latinx/a/o, Indigenous, other Person of Color, or first-generation college attendee or graduate; Be seeking full-time employment in a research associate or research assistant role within 6 months of program completion; Be 18+ years of age; Be able to show proof of ability to legally work in the U.S.

Description: MassBioEd’s Apprenticeship Program offers a streamlined pathway into the industry that combines technical training, on-site work experience, and income support. Soft skills workshops and broad industry knowledge are incorporated into the training to give apprentices an understanding of their role in the delivery of drugs to patients in need. Working with leading life science employers, MassBioEd has designed two apprenticeships – one for Biomanufacturing Technicians and one for Clinical Trial Associates. Both programs will enable individuals to obtain foundational knowledge and industry recognized skills, and quickly transition into employment that provides meaningful work, family-sustaining wages, and career growth.
