Maths8-12All students have Mathematics on their timetable across KS3 and KS4. CEIAG is an integral part of our SOW units and is discussed at the beginning of a new topic, often each lesson at KS4 for relevance. All staff in Mathematics department have a careers noticeboard.

Each staff member emphasises the importance of Maths and discusses pathways available when Further Maths is studied at GCSE in Year 11 and 12.
We participate in UKMC, Maths Week Ireland and world Pi Day which incorporates CEIAG and post 16 careers / options. We have also forged a strong relationship with Citi group in promoting financial literacy with KS4 students offering:• Guest speakers to discuss salaries / working in industry.
• Mini projects and packs
• Trip organised to allow students to experience work in an office environment (based opposite Grand Central in Belfast). We also deliver financial capability sessions working with Young Enterprise, Thinking Matters and The Money Charity (Tom Collingson)

English 8 - 12CEIAG permeates all SoW across all year groups. Pupils are aware of what they are learning and why, how they are learning and how it translates to the world of work. Modern Languages Year 8-12Pupils are given opportunity to develop awareness of Career opportunities available through the study of Languages. Pupils discuss the opportunities that exist within the European Union for Interpreters/Translators/Lawyer Linguists. EDL is celebrated every year at whole school level. The GCSE specification for Modern Languages contributes to the development of TSPC and transferable skills through the study of nermous topics, in particular Context 3: Part time jobs, money management and future plans. HE10Year 10 - the first unit is all about careers in our subject area and they have a go at 3 of these areas in class.
They will visit a ‘food industry’ workshop. All HE classrooms have CEIAG boards

Performing Arts and Music10, 11 & 12 The first unit of the Performance Skills course is based around employability in the perfoming arts industry. Pupils are required to consider various types of jobs including performance, administration and production roles. Pupils will already be familiar with this due to the foundation work being completed in the first unit of the year 10 scheme of work.

Science8-12CEIAG is an embedded into our SOW units and Science careers are discussed at the beginning of a new topic, at KS3 and KS4. All staff in the Science department have a careers noticeboard and their is also a CEIAG noticeboard in the corridor.

Each staff member emphasises the importance of Science at GCSE level and discusses pathways available when choosing Double Award Science. Pupils who do not choose Double Award Science are advised they cannot study the Sciences at A level with SA or OCN. STEM careers talks are organised throughout the year from various organisation such as Sentinus Almac etc STEM club and competitions running after school also emphasise the importance of STEM subjects for future careers. Science department also run the SJBC Eco and Gardening clubs and work closely with various organisations including local mens shed and businesses in the promotion of eco awareness and sustainabiliy for the future.
Careers talks from various organisation such as Sentinus, water board etc. Competitions such as BT Young scientist, Eco-Unesco, Eco Award NI. Science /career fields trips to Planetarium, W5, Belfast Zoo, Lough Neagh discovery centre. STEM Careers fair with several employers in March. Year 12 pupils had a STEM careers trip to Almac this year where they spend the day seeing the different departments and job roles within Almac.

Art and Design8- 12Year 8- Colour theory topic helps focus on various careers linked to colour theory and the elements of art. Careers such as Fashion design, Interior design and Make-up artists.

History8-12CEIAG is implemented throughout various aspects of the History SOW. In Year 8, the 'What is History' module shows students how historical skills, learnt in lessons translates to everyday life. Students are taught how to analyse, write effectively, detect and think critically and shown how this will translate and help them in everyday life / the working world. In Year 9 students complete a topic in partnership with Ulster University's outreach programme, allowing them to recieve a qualification through completing the Historical course for their personal records. Students at Y10, when choosing GCSE options are informed of the careers they can achieve with a History qualification.'Where will History take you' Noticeboard is also outside of the main History classroom in the school.Partnership created with Ulster Univertisty Outreach programme to allow students to gain a certificate of achievement.Potential for speakers, or testimonials of key individuals who's jobs are linked to History to speak with Y10-Y12 students.

HairdressingYear 11-12Both Units undertaken by students has a career section in which they learn about different career roles within the industry. There is a career noticeboard within the classroom to show further careers available in the sector. Career pathways are a part of classroom discussion. Contact with Peoples 1st and The Acadmey of hair and beauty allows students to explore differernt pathways. Acadmey of hair and beauty- Talk regarding apprenctiships and a visit to the college. Talk with people 1st and a day trip to the college for practcial day.

Performing Arts and MusicYear 8-12In KS3 pupils learn about job roles in Music such as composers, conductors and producers. Year 10 focus' specifically on careers within the film industry. In KS4 Unit 1 is heavily focused on working within the performing arts industry where pupils undergo research on the various jobs available within the sector under the titles 'performance, non performance and arts administration'.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=53TkL1EVLq0 This webinar is used as a tool for exploring jobs within the Performing Arts Industry. RW uses her contacts in the West End to discuss performance roles within the industry.

TD Dept (TD, OS Engineering & Construction)Year 8 - 12KS3 - All topics are linked to possible careers and areas where those skills / knowledge would be used in industry. KS4 - Across all units covered in Engineering and Construction, pupils complete a specific careers topic where they research and investigate 3 job roles within that sibject area. Pupils will also be given the opportunity to go on a site visit throughout their time to ensure they get a feel for the real life of a construction worker. Pupils also get advice on how to apply for apprenticeships in FE colleges.Outside agencies we have worked with include Sentinus (STEM Day in June 2025), Primary Engineer, W5, MEGA, CITB, CIOB, Open Doors - Get into Construction, GEDA Construction, Greiner Packaging, Mens Shed, Local primary schools, etc.
