GregMy mind goes cross-eyed trying to work through the implications of this. In the long run, we're probably going to need to rewrite the implicit dependency logic anyway, so a short-term solution is OK.

Stevenresearch?Agree w/Greg re: cross-eyed. This goes back to some minor heartburn I have with --implicit-cache, which is that people want to use it for the performance improvement, but then still want it to be fully reliable, which it isn't by definition. Not that I want to give myself more work, but maybe the right thing here is for me+Ludwig to pick one of his four options. That probably implies research...

Steven2.x or anytimep4?stevenknightOkay, I get what he wants. It's a hook into SConsOptions to provide an API to fetch the generated help text.

Stevenresearchsteveknightwe should be able to handle dirs as targets, at least better than we do now

Bill2.xHow about an environment variable to allow modifying the default SConstruct name?

48
Gary2.xI'd like to allow this someday, the way make allows Makefile or makefile. I think it *should* be .py.
49
GregwontfixWorkaround: have a trivial SConstruct that calls a script with whatever suffix he wants.

Steven1.xstevenknightWe already allow SConstruct or Sconstruct or sconstruct. I think being able to support a *.scons file everywhere is good for things like syntax-coloring IDEs and editors and the like.

GaryGreg: is that really an error?
62
Greg2.xp2Huh. I thought this was a user error, with an invalid SWIG file (which is true, but does not appear to be related), but it turns out that reversing the order of the objects on the command line produces different trees. That shouldn't happen. I added a comment to that effect. It suggests that the bug is in the display rather than the database, so I've made it 2.x.

75
Greg1.2p1Possibly a blocker for 1.2. I'm not sure I completely trust the accuracy of the reporting, but we need to get some traction to figure out what we need to do about it. If it's not a blocker, we can retriage it next time.
