1. It’s just two chapters in, but please let me know:
4
A: Are you interested in these characters and this story? Have I captured your interest after two chapters? YES!Yes I liked the opening chapters, it gives us the background to the characters, but we get straight into the mystery.I’m interested. Seems Monica may have set up Rory as the trust lawyer knowing his sub par defense law skill would allow her to manipulate her case.
Yes, it’s a very good hook and setup, and it leaves me wanting to know more. The dynamic between Rory and Monica is intriguing.
Yes. You have
5
B.If you had to guess right now about Tom’s death, would you say” - 1. He really did kill himself; 2. Monica killed him and staged it to look like a suicide2. Monica killed him and staged it to look like a suicide3. Somebody else killed him and staged it to look like a suicide. Seems most likely - perhaps manipulated by Monica?I’m leaning toward 1 as I expect he may have been overwhelmed by the scheme being hatched.
Monica killed him -- This is very likely, and I’m inclined to say yes. There are hints peppered here and there, like the fact that she gave two different answers about if the body was moved or not (I’m surprised the detectives didn’t call her out on that). I also think there were too many convenient responses as to why she didn’t check her messages all day. Her body language in Rory’s office suggested that she was having some issues with Tom, so killing him and enjoying all the lottery spoils is a plausible motivation.
Monica killed him

2. It’s now four chapters in and we’ve been focused only on the main plot.
8
A. Are you fully invested in the story? Or, is it a yawn and you wish there was more action? Or something in between? I am FULLY invested, but Rory seems like a putz who’s getting used.Yes - no I think it’s fine - there’s the mystery of what happened to the lottery ticket, and clues from Monica’s behaviour that things are not what they seem.I’m engaged and action is moving steadily with the missing ticket reveal. I’m feeling Monica’s premeditated choice of Rory as counsel and her sexual directional undertone to drive her control of the narrative.
I’m invested. I think the pacing has been good so far and Rory is an interesting character. I do think this chapter could use more of a sense of urgency about finding the missing/moved ticket, as that’s a major plot point that seemed glossed over for the sake of moving on to the Rory/Monica dynamic at his apartment.

B. Am I in danger of losing my audience? If so, what would you like to see to keep you reading from here? I’m still with you – really want to see what happens next!Pace is good. One additional plot depth might help. A bit more on how Monica knows Rory would be a naive vehicle to use in her scheme. Since her and Tom had not connected with him in many years, I’m wondering what research she did to choose him. If Tom contributed to the scheme and connection will be revealed later, then skip suggestion. I am glad you flushed out Rory’s family history as it explains his being a bit naïve about relationships and provides a runway for Monica to manipulate him.
Your audience will still be invested. There are plenty of interesting setups going on.
No danger losing audience. Im vested and want to know more.

3. It’s the end of the day on Tuesday.
12
A. Now you have been introduced to the two main subplots. Are you more or less interested in the story than you were after chapter 4 (when it was just the main Rory/Monica plot)? MORE interested  Yes the mystery of what exactly Tom was up to, and what’s going on at the firm, adds to the suspense.Subplot 1 is clear. Monica is playing Rory. Subplot 2 is less clear (Breonna playing both Monica and Rory) but I know Breonna is devious and the affair with Tom is likely driving a story arc. Buster and the Northrup guys are a fun story layer and I’m interested how their mucking around will impact the final outcome.
I would say my level of interest is around the same. There are still the mysteries of how Tom died, if it was a suicide, and if he was involved in anything illegal. There’s also the lottery ticket, and the mystery of what happened to that. Plenty of things to keep me wanting more.
)? Im wondering how it ties in with Toms death but could be a mob hit so…
13
B. Based on the information you have now, has your opinion changed about what really happened to Tom? Or are you still waiting for more information? Waiting for more info. There’s still something fishy about Monica. This increases the potential motives to murder him, but it’ll be good to know more.I’m still waiting on more information to determine Tom’s fate. I’m wondering if he really killed himself or if the Northrup guys and their cronies killed him to keep him quiet
Still waiting for more information. Based on what we know about the crime scene, a suicide is still very plausible, especially if he was worried about being mixed up with shady characters. I haven’t forgotten about Monica’s occasionally bizarre behavior either, though, such as moving the body and picking up the gun for no apparent reason. Based on this previous chapter, she’s also moved on shockingly quickly from her husband’s death. Not to mention, she seems to have a “damsel in distress” sort of demeanor during certain parts of the story. Not sure if that’s intentional or not, but all of this does make me believe she could be involved somehow.
I dont think Tom killed himself and wanting more info.
14
C. Have the subplots made you more or less interested in the book and what is going to happen next? MORE interestedMore interested. The subplots are peaking my interest as a expect they will cross.
I haven’t connected too much with the subplots and side characters at this point. I do get why they are necessary, but they mainly seem to be there to confirm suspicions we’ve already had about Tom.
Still interested in the book.

4. At this point in the story . . . 4.Beta readers: At this point in the story:
17
A. How do you feel about Monica? Do you trust her? Do you think Rory should trust her? How has your impression changed since the beginning? There’s more to the story now, but I still don’t trust Monica. No (but it is possible your comparison with Body Heat tipped me off that she could be a Femme Fatale.) Poor Rory doesn’t stand a chance.I think Monica is devious but not as devious as Breonna. Her character comes off as genuine when she mourns Tom when with Rory so her trust factor with him is solid.
I still think her behavior from the start has been a little odd (not answering her phone the day Tom died, the crime scene interference, etc.), but there are also reasons to think that it’s simply due to stress from everything going on. I’m cautiously optimistic that she isn’t involved in Tom’s death, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if I found out that she was.
? I think Monica knows more and is using her influence over Rory because she knows hes a wet noodle around here.
18
B. As characters, are you invested in these two and what’s going to happen between them? Or, are you bored by the relationship/romance and just want to know what happened to the lottery ticket? I’m invested – not at all bored. If Monica was genuinely grieving she would not have jumped into bed with Rory so quickly - or if she did, she’d be regretful the next morning. So I’m interested in what’s going to happen but not in a pro-romance kind of way! I’m Invested in their quest. I’ll say it is fun watching Monica squirm as Rory is applying the legal steps and determining from his pure legal theory that in the real world the case needs to be turned over to authorities. He’s totally honest. She’s playing him.
I think the romance is intriguing and serves as a proper motivation as to why Rory is going so far out of his way to help her.
Still invested
19
C. Overall, are you intrigued by the story so far? Do you think you know what’s happening and what’s going to happen? Intrigued – no idea what you’ll throw at us next.C.Overall, are you intrigued by the story so far?  Yes, definitely.  Some idea but expect to be wrong-footed.I’m still not exactly sure which direction the plot will take. This makes it a fun ride.
Yes, it’s still intriguing. I do think we’ve spent a little too much time speculating on Tom’s possible embezzlement, and I’m ready to find out more about the ticket itself.
? I am intrigued because I dont read a lot with financial crime and I find it intriguing.
20
D. What’s your guess at this point? What really happened to Tom, and what happened to the lottery ticket? I feel like Breonna is more of a major character.  I’m suspicious that the lottery ticket is a fake, that they have hatched a plot to steal the embezzled money & claim it came from a lottery win, using Rory to hide it, and that Monica decided she wanted it all. I still doubt she killed him herself, although there’s a reason she picked up the gun…I’m guessing Breonna and Tom had an alternative plan and Monica was set up to take the fall. Again guessing that Rory was hand selected by Tom as Monica’s legal counsel since he had no legal embezzlement skills to draw from and also in love with Monica. Between Monica, Breonna, Buster, one of Tom’s business partners, and Tom himself, there are still plenty of guesses as to what might have happened. Hard to say at this point. ? Not sure yet. Someone has it. Dont think its Buster but maybe Monica has had it all along.

5. We’re about at the halfway point:5.Beta Readers: We’re about at the halfway point:
23
A. How do you feel about the pacing of the story? Is it moving along well and you’re surprised that you’re already nearly halfway through? Or, is it dragging and you wish you had more information about the main plot? Yes the pace is good & enough has happened to keep me interested and in suspense. The pace is good. Each chapter delivers steady stream of new content. I’m not bored.
The pacing seems okay so far, save for some long exposition here and there (mainly when it comes to the technological and financial talk). The mention of the boat was a good way to end the first half, as it’s a way for our heroes to recover from a brutal setback. In my opinion, I think at least a mention of the boat early on could serve as an effective use of Chekov’s Gun.
I think its moving well.
24
B. Do you care about Rory and Monica and what will happen to them? Yes Yesno answer
Rory has been a good main character with a believable motive. Monica has been interesting too, and I feel like there’s more to her that we aren’t getting just yet.
I do still care about the two main characters.
25
C. Have you had changes in your guesses about what really happened? Yes – still actively guessing. Yes the confirmation of criminal activity by Tom’s firm widens the range of possibilities.no answer
Still hard to say for sure. Throwing Gallata into the mix was a nice touch, though he doesn’t seem like a “main antagonist” kind of guy. Northrup seems shady, too.
? No changes yet.
26
D. Do you think you really know what really happened and how it’s going to come out at the end? Nope – still guessing. I’m not sure anymore, which is good!no answer
Can’t say I do. It’s a pretty tight mystery at this point.
? As a cop I always want more info about the crime scene but I will pleasantly wait.
27
E. Is there any information you wish you had that you’re waiting for? Or, are you satisfied with the amount of information you have and you are having fun trying to figure it out? I am satisfied with the amount of info and definitely having fun trying to figure it out. I feel this is enough info.I’ve confirmed my suspicion that Monica’s scheme was intended to include Rory as a naive player. I’m getting that Jack Northrup had the larger embezzlement scheme going on and Tom was in over his head . The Gallata thugs are now interfering in Monica’s plan which is fun to watch play out. I’m not sure where Breonna fits yet so am intrigued to find out how her plot line gets pulled in.
I’d still like to know more about the dynamic between Monica and Breonna. I’m surprised we haven’t gotten more than a couple of brief mentions about her from Monica.

6. We have reached Saturday:Beta Readers: We have reached Saturday:
30
A. Have you changed your mind about what you thought really happened since the beginning of the story?no answerYes, I like all the twists so now have no idea what happened!I’m confident Breonna is leading the scam. She way too savvy not to be highly likely the leader.
Tom’s cancer changes a lot. It tells me that he and/or Monica had some kind of plan to secure their money before he died.
A little. Im playing different angles in my mind.
31
B. Do you have opinions/expectations about what’s going to happen on Saturday, or are you happy to just keep reading and find out when you get there?no answer I’ll just keep reading to find out. Thanks for not killing Breonna - she’s cool.I’m expecting the subplots to cross with Rory, Monica and Breonna all tying together some how. Hoping Rory doesn’t get killed.
Hard to say. There’s still plenty of shadiness with Northrup, Buster, and who the mysterious bitcoin guy is. There’s also Monica herself. Her affection for Rory seems genuine, but the fact that she hadn’t brought up Tom’s condition by now makes her suspicious. Even if Tom hadn’t told her about the cancer, she had to have noticed his declining health.
? I have an opinion but want to keep reading
32
C. How do you feel now about Rory and Monica? Has your interest level in their relationship grown since after chapter 5?no answer I’m still not convinced she’s not using him.The relationship seems like a scam Monica has in place for her manipulation of Rory’s trust and her counsel cover. Not sure if this is the end game but it’s feeling this way. I’m still interested if Rory becomes more savvy to see what he’s gotten himself into or not
The scenes between them are good. It’s believable that Monica would go for a gentle soul like Rory after being with someone like Tom. And I do like that she gives Rory motivation to be braver and more assertive. I do still think Monica’s “Oh Rory, my hero!” demeanor can be taken down a notch, as she sometimes comes across like Olive Oyl from the Popeye cartoons.
? So my interest is still the same but I think shes playing him and hes buying what she is selling.

General “Big Picture” Questions
36
1. Story continuity -- do the events depicted make sense in the order and with the timeline that I've constructed? Are there any scenes that seem out of sequence, or events that don't seem to mesh with the timeline?Story continuity flowed fine for me. A good back and forth flow from each story compartment/character group. Kept me wanting more! The timeline works. I was a bit confused why Buster wanted to jump back into the ransom scene arc, but when turned out to be the Buzz Cut guy it all came together.
Everything is sequenced properly from what I can tell. You do well at orienting us with day and time.
The only issue that troubled me was the drop off scene/stakeout between the three groups. It was bungled for me. Obviously there was a lot going on and it was a bit confusing
37
38
2.  Logical continuity -- does everything make sense? As you go along, and especially at the end, do you say, "Oh, yeah, now I see." or are you scratching your head and saying, "Huh?  What happened?" Are you able to follow along well, or would you like to have some different information along the way to help you understand better? In my opinion, everything was either apparent initially, or was explained during the story.I would have liked to have had a deeper build of Breonna’s character early on to support her being the real mastermind behind the overall scheme. Basically how she was the plant in Northrup to know the grand embezzlement plans. Maybe have her overhear conversations at the firm so her insider knowledge is built out a bit. Some of the scenes with Buster and the Gallata men toward the end had me wondering what was going on, but I felt more oriented with everything once the story was done.Yes the story flowed well. I think the chapters were laid out well and kept things moving chronologically.
39
40
3.  Hanging threads and missing connections -- is there anything that seems like a loose end?  Anything that comes up during the story that is never connected back later?  Any information that you wish you had, but never got? Any logical leaps that are not properly explained?I didn’t encounter any. I found everything easy to follow. This is great for me, because if there are too many characters in the story line, I find it confusing. This story moved along at a great pace (like, I couldn’t put it down!), stayed organized, and was easy for me to follow. No big gaps that didn’t get connected by the end
Did Monica know about Rory having 3 million dollars when they initiated the plan? Also, did she know the whole time that Rory would have gone so far out of his way to help her? It seems like everything Rory did was supposed to be all a part of her plan, but it also seems very lucky for Monica that he ended up being so accommodating. [KGC: Yes -- I need to set this up better]
The scene early on with the two dead guys in the basement seems out of place. I was waiting for a connection between them and either Buster or the Gallata mob. Also if there were cameras or microphones in the house that Buster could go back to, why didnt he either see or hear the incident between Tom and Breonna?
41
42
4.  Character continuity -- are the characters consistent from start to end (except for development/growth that makes sense within the story)? Are there any actions or words from a character that you think "That person wouldn't say/do that.?" Are there any characters that you think should be more fully developed? Are there any characters you think should be cut out altogether? I didn’t notice any inappropriate-for-character dialogue. I thought Rory was pretty consistently a putz. I was glad to see he found someone at the end of the story! 😊Building out Breonna’s character a bit more would help.
Outside of what I’d mentioned in my comments throughout the story, I think the continuity was overall good. As for character development, we get a good sense of who Monica and Rory are. Breonna was a good character with an interesting background. But after reading the last chapter, it made me wish we knew even more about her. I would have liked to have gotten to know her a little more throughout the course of the story. For characters like Buster, Northrup, and the detectives, it feels like they’re mainly there to fill their roles in the story, but I can’t say I connected much with them. They did their jobs as minor characters.
The only thing I thought was odd was at the beginning when Tom and Monica are telling Rory about the lotto and he isnt making the connection. Unless he is just aloof, hes a financial attorney and I would think they have a little common sense. I think all the other characters maintained the same rhythm throughout.
43
44
5.  Overall impression. Not just whether you "like" the story, but how it makes you feel. Is it just nice, or does it have some "zing" to it?  How could it be better? When you tell a friend about this book, what will you say? I really did “like” the story. I felt invested in the story from the first chapter. Tom was cocky and annoying. It might be a stretch to think he was noble and selfless enough to “give his life for another’s benefit,” but I guess he figured ending himself would save him the pain & struggle of the cancer, as well as the SEC mess. I liked the part where Breonna flipped Buster on his back in Northrup’s office! Also, when she used her Judo plaque to bash the guys after her.I enjoyed the story line. I’m glad Monica was happy Rory was engaged. It made me feel Monica wasn’t so heartless. It came just at the right time to put a bow on the ending
It comes across as a cautionary tale. Rory was thinking with the wrong organ. He put way too much trust and energy into Monica, and it bit him on the ass in so many different ways. It’s nice that he ends up with Heidi in the end, but it doesn’t feel like his character grew a whole lot throughout the story. While it’s true that he became more of a risk-taker, he did it more for Monica’s sake than for his own. Personally, I actually would have preferred if he rejected Heidi’s advances in the end. I think he needs to find happiness and confidence on his own rather than relying on a relationship to give that to him (that’s exactly the mistake he made with Monica).
I liked it. I dont read a lot of crime stuff that focues on the financial side of it but I enjoyed this. I wanted to know more and learn how this worked. Im currently have a case now that is tied in with bank fraud and stuff so im intrigued.

Specific Questions
48
6. The biggest question is whether you saw it coming. It is likely that readers will easily see that Monica is hiding something and not being truthful with Rory. But (be honest): Sort of, but again, you did tip me off with the Body Heat comparison.
49
A. Did you think Monica killed Tom (or had something to do with murdering him)? Initially, I did think Monica was responsible, then I thought Breonna…? Initially, then I wasn’t so sure.I thought from the start Monica did not kill Tom but she was part of his plan to kill himself to get out of the Northrup embezzlement scheme and fund her future.
I wondered at first if she’d murdered him, but after learning about the cancer, I realized she had to have had a different role in everything.
Yes I did. Just wasnt sure how.
50
B. Did you think Monica’s stated feelings for Rory, and their lovemaking, was a sham all along? Yes, I felt Monica over-did the, “Oh Rory, I’m SO into YOU” thing all along. Yes.I was onto Monica from the beginning that the relationship with Rory was a means to an end. She was too Rich and Famous to be in love with a young gamer lawyer.
I think there were parts of it that were authentic, especially when she’d talked about the way Tom (allegedly) had treated her. But I did think it was always strange that she showered Rory with so much adoration right out of the gate. I’d mentioned a couple times throughout the story that her, “Oh Rory, my hero!” demeanor seemed off. It turned out to make sense based on her plan, but I still think her overly affectionate behavior toward Rory could be toned down in order to throw the readers off the scent.
I think she had feeling but was playing the long game. She was just doing what she had to do.
51
C. Before the lottery ticket was exposed as a fake, did you have any inkling that Monica might not be dead? YES! I was SURE Monica wasn’t dead. When there was no body, I was sure she swam to the boat and got away. Yes - no body, too suspicious.I had a feeling Breonna, Tom & Monica were working together so the fact that Monica’s body was never found added up. I didn’t see the lottery ticket being a fake coming so was fun when this wrinkle came. It confirmed my thoughts that the Breonna, Tom, Monica trifecta were the scheme masters playing Rory for his 3 Million.
A rule I use in TV and movies is, “If you don’t see the body, they aren’t dead.” I used that same tactic with this story, and turned out to be correct.
No but was a thought.
52
D. Until the very end, did you have any idea that Monica’s scheme the whole time was to bilk the $3 million from Rory? No, that’s one thing I still don’t understand…Why drag Rory in to steal $3 million from him? Why the fake lottery ticket? Yes - not sure how she knew he had it.Not until the ticket was revealed as a fake. Then it all came clear
Can’t say I did, at least not until the last couple of chapters. I knew something was up with Monica and Breonna, but I think the way you presented the twist was well constructed. It wasn’t too obvious, but it also wasn’t completely out of left field.
Not until I figured out who the hooded person was. Everything for me popped in to place.
53
E. Until the very end, did you have any idea that Breonna was involved in the scheme? Yes, I suspected it, though not to the extent that the finish unfolded. It was the point where “Hoodie” used a judo move that tipped me off:  Also the voice disguiser and the mention of Hoodie’s height. Perhaps you need a red herring to make readers suspect someone else - like the doorman? Obviously I read so many thrillers that I spot twists more than most though!I had a feeling from the start she was a subplot contributor. Given her inside knowledge of Northrup Industries. The ransom scene connected the dots for me. I then figured out she was the likely the Hoodie Guy.
Hoodie’s voice disguising, athleticism, and ability to flip Buster is what helped me realize it was Breonna in that moment. They were all well-placed clues. It’s something I happened to figure out, but it’s the kind of twist that I felt proud about figuring out (rather than feeling like it was too obvious).
No not in that sense. I thought she was up to something but not a part of the scheme.
54
F. And the most important question: now that you know, is your reaction a positive one (“Oh, now I see it! That’s good”), or is it a bad one (“I’m angry with the author for doing that to me”)? Yes – positive. I liked the multi-chapter wrap up of each character group.  Mixed feelings - I don’t really believe that Tom would commit suicide for Monica. He came across as selfish and not one to give in like that, even with the cancer. I’m ok with the scam but feel disappointed that Jack & Buster got off scot-free. I would’ve liked the police to uncover their plot. Or are you keeping them for another story?I enjoyed the ride. I was glad Rory wasn’t just a vehicle for the scheme but came out of the story a stronger person. 3 Million will not be missed given his overall trust and he is now more confident and also engaged. Great ending to the story.
I wouldn’t say the revelations at the end made me angry. Everything seemed properly set up and paid off, so overall, my sentiments are positive.
No the story was fantastic. A little slow at the beginning but it picked up quickly.
55
56
7. Is it clear enough now what Monica’s (and Tom’s and Breonna’s) plan was and how it was supposed to happen – and how Buster and the Northrup guys, along with the cops, caused the original plan to go sideways? Or, do I need to do more to make it clear for the reader at the end? It seems pretty clear to me. Other than my question, “why drag Rory in?”   No I didn’t really understand how the embezzlement connected to the lottery plot. Whose idea was it for Tom to commit suicide? If it was just about the lottery ticket what was Rory supposed to think about the suicide? Why go after Rory? Surely with the access to the company money they didn’t need it. What happened to the million that Tom transferred out? It would make more sense if they had a personal grievance against Rory - some kind of revenge motive not just greed. And I take it Breonna and Tom weren’t having an affair? It is clear the Trifecta had the scheme plotted out. I thought Buster and the Northrup guys sustained the plot with their antics. I didn’t see it as they threw off the scheme. Maybe I missed something but their insertion seemed just another expected attempt by detectives and Northrup to contain their own intrests
It was explained well, but I would have liked a little more about Breonna’s relationship with Tom and Monica. She must have been really close friends with them to have been such a major part of that scheme. As for Tom, I would have liked more closure on how Monica felt about him for real. She claimed he cheated on her and mistreated her, but she was obviously untrustworthy when telling Rory that. Was she truly devastated by Tom’s death? And how did she feel about not being able to share her life and wealth with him?
I thought you played it out perfectly. Each group inserting themselves and who was watching caused multiple scenarios to be put in place. Like the movie Oscar. Cops see what they want to see, Buster sees what he wants and so on.
57
58
8. What is your impression at the end about Rory’s character? Do you think there is enough growth/change here for Rory to be a proper protagonist, even if he did play the sap for Monica? Do you feel sympathy for Rory? Sadness? Or at least some emotional connection that makes you glad you “met” him through this story? I felt sympathy for Rory, but he was just TOO eager to believe Monica might have chosen him over Tom, when they were younger, if he had just followed through. (what a putz) I lost sympathy through the book as he allows himself to be led by his dick and greed and makes so many stupid decisions. Do you think there is enough growth/change here for Rory to be a proper protagonist, even if he did play the sap for Monica? He wasn’t likeable enough for me - by the end I felt he got what he deserved. Do you feel sympathy for Rory? Initially yes. But lusting after your “Best Friend’s Girl” is not OK, and while he kids himself that he’s in love with her, that’s not love. --  Not sure - I don’t regret reading it but just feel a bit disappointed by the ending. Definitely enough growth for the protagonist. The ending growth came just at the right time. Rory was put through the ringer but came out better for it (and got some great SEX).
I feel mostly sympathy for Rory, and while he makes his share of mistakes, he really tries to better himself and be brave. As I had stated above, I think his biggest mistake was relying on Monica to become a better person. He gets engaged to Heidi in the end, but I never got a sense of how he is going to learn from his past mistakes and how he’s going to be more confident and less gullible moving forward.
Yea I hate he lost what he did but he gained confidence. He did something outside his norm and paid the price but he lived.
59
60
9. What is your impression at the end about Monica? Love her? Hate her? Do you have strong feelings that (again) make you glad you read the story?I am somewhat ambiguous about Monica, as well as Breonna. They got what they wanted, in spite of anyone they had to walk on or use in their pursuit of happiness.I don’t hate her but I don’t respect what she did and feel sorry she got a happy ending. What would’ve been brilliant is to end it with Breonna playing her, and ending up with the money, and Monica being left with nothing.I am not a huge fan of Monica. I'm more of a Rory fan. Although I was intrigued by her manipulation skills and her ability to flex with the ever-changing dodgeballs coming her way.
I both hate and admire her. When I say I hate her, it’s a good thing, because I see her as the main villain of the story. She served that role well.
She is one of those women that you think, damn that bitch but would still want to be with her no matter what. She has a unique way of sinking her teeth in and though he know it will hurt you willing accept it.
61
62
10. Are the side stories (the detectives investigating, and Buster and the Northrup guys trying to control the damage) well-enough balanced to provide interesting perspectives without distracting too much from the main plot? Or, would you have liked more or less of them? I believe the balance between the main character group, Buster and his guys, and the detectives was fairly well balanced. I did feel sorry for the cops. They were kind of hanging out there on their own with no real support from their shop. It painted them in a less than flattering light.I enjoyed the side plots. The story was balanced and kept my interest while the main plot evolved. The side stories serve their purpose and Buster proved to be a pretty entertaining minor character. All in all though, I think the chapters with Buster, Northrup, and the cops could be trimmed a bit. At times, I found myself just wanting to get back to Monica and Rory when reading.I thought there was enough of them. It was a good balance.
63
64
11. Was there too much sex/romance in the story for your liking, or did you enjoy the relationship/love story aspect of the book along the way? The sex/romance part was unnecessary for me, but was not “over the top” and stayed in line with the flow of the story. I’m glad that you limit the cursing in your stories. I’d enjoy them more with no cursing, but I guess you have to sell to the larger audience. PS I’m glad you limited the sex scenes - that’s about as much raunch as I’m comfortable with.I liked the sex/romance. It enhanced the connection between Monica and Rory and held as a mask to the plot line below the surface. Had I not been suspicious of Beonna early on, I would have been more surprised the relationship was a fake.
The romance/sex was appropriate for the story. It explains why Rory was so willing to go out of his way for Monica, and why Rory didn’t think as clearly as he should have at times.
Wasnt too much but a little imaginative for the book. However I think its important to show the reader how well the hooks were set on Rory. He was whipped and rightly so.

12. Were you satisfied with the ending? Is there sufficient explanation for you to fully understand what happened and why? If you are not sure exactly what really happened and how the plan was supposed to go down, tell me what’s not clear so I can fix it. Everything seemed pretty clear to me. Did Tom & Breonna have an affair or was it all Breonna & Monica?Overall this was a good easy to read story, but you never managed to fully convince me that Monica was genuine or make me believe that she and Rory were truly in love. Your questions make me think you suspected this might be the case. I’m glad he got a happy ending but feel none of the bad guys got their comeuppance.I was super clear on the ending. One thing to note on my Beta Read. I tend to know the "Chapman Style" of surgically introducing characters that have a plot twist role in the end. This may have been a driver to my suspicion of Beonna early on. The plan explanation made sense to me. The only thing I wasn’t fully satisfied with was Rory’s overall growth in the end (as mentioned already).
Yea it was cleaned up right and explained well.
