This is a place to put the project idea you have or the organization you're involved with. Just add your project or org as a row, with a couple of words describing it under "Project Name". Please add contact information for anything you add. If you have some online resource for the project, like a github or a hackpad or an etherpad (pad.riseup.net), add it to column D. Feel free to extemporize about your project under "Description." This is also a good place to express your interest in projects here by adding your name & info to the "Hackers Interested" section (columns G onward). Note that I will be protecting cells as people add them to prevent abuse -- if you think something in an existing cell should be changed, please just add a comment. If you're confused about any of this, look at the Example Project at the top.

Buoy is a community-based crisis response system, designed to quickly connect people in need with trusted friends, family members, advocates, and other allies. It is free software (implemented as a WordPress plugin) that can be distributed, hosted by, and customized to each community's needs. Our goal is to facilitate the growth of competent and connected mutual aid networks that can serve as alternatives to calling the police in an emergency.

See https://wordpress.org/plugins/buoy/ for the current distribution.

Networking with a Rasberry PiDavid Bunnydavidofalaska@gmail.comA Rasberry Pi can be programmed as a Tor proxy, which is useful for e.g. circumventing oppressive government firewalls that block Tor itself (http://makezine.com/projects/browse-anonymously-with-a-diy-raspberry-pi-vpntor-router/). One can also be loaded with information from the internet and hooked up to broadcast that information in remote regions of the world where internet connections are unavailable (http://pi.worldpossible.org/). How can we improve on these projects? What else can we build with this technology? (...you could also make a guerrila Tor exit node to hide on corporate LANs)Nikhill RaoVikas Kumar

Cottage Food Application App: Help reclaim cooking as a low-barrier lever of economic empowermentCharley Wangchawang90@gmail.com
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1goPgivyoFCY6BGdXVBUpU0jas801fe101CPWqrljiNM/edit?usp=sharing
(click to expand) Before the Cottage Food Bill was passed, the only way to exchange food for money in the US legally was with the use of a commercial food facility, a business license, and taxes. This represented an enormous barrier to entry in the food industry not only through financial overhead, but also through the privilege necessary to navigate the complex, hypercompetitive, and white-male dominated food industry. This represents an enormous problem, since cooking is one of the most fundamental levers of economic empowerment in society - think about all of the ESL immigrants, stay-at-home parents, or families living in food deserts that don't have many other opportunities and are limited by their circumstances. Now that the Cottage Food Bill is here, people have a slightly lower barrier way sell certain types of foods out of their home kitchens for profit. However, the process for applying for a cottage food license is incredibly convoluted and has a horrible user experience. I'm proposing we spend a weekend mapping out all of the education and information needed for different cottage food licenses and building a beautiful app allowing users to learn about the cottage food license, enter their information in a smart form, and have transparency around the process. I think an app like this would immediately be able to impact and empower a ton of people who have been excluded by the food industry, and would garner support from the policy and advocacy groups that fought so hard to establish cottage food bill in the first place.

Members report their income during the month, and at the end of the month the software tells them who needs what and how much, while at the same time keeping the number of payments that members asked to send down to a minimum.Participants willing to come up with diverse range of "fair" ways to distribute based on a variety of needs. Group Income EnhancementDerniel Basuraenlabasura@gmail.comTBAMembers contribute a small-moderate sum of money each month via app to become limited partners. The money is then invested in promising equities and/or commodities. At the end of each month, members split the investment proceeds. As we grow, we can leverage our collective assets to make more interesting purchases. We might have to appoint a diverse member to handle group strategy at that point. 1x Fair trade expert. 1x matlab coder, 1x visual basic coder with labview experience. 1x person from Argentina. Casteism Tracker for Indian UniversitiesThenmozhi Soundararajandalitdiva@gmail.comTBAIndia is currently under turmoil as Dalit student leaders are leading the nation in a brutal conversation about caste apartheid's manifestations in Universities. From delays in scholarships, hostile discrimination of faculty and other students, to brutal bullying and political assasination Many Dalit Students struggle to maintain in the face of such violence. Now a national movement ot end caste discrimiantona nd caste apartheid is seizing the moment and our movements need a way to get fast reliably harvested data about the kinds of discrimination faced currently in Indian institutions. Our hope is this project would allow us to create a fast form that could then easily visualize the extent of discrimination on campuses for immediate use by the movement. There is no underestimating how much this tool would be used by the movement. So all help is appreciated! We are hoping it could be something like this: http://hyperallergic.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/SaveWiyabi2.jpg1 Designer, 1 Coder and Crowdmaping software expert

A new generation online group decision making tool for online and offline commujnities. Instead of just digitizing current voting practices and moving them online, without much added value, this project aims to explore and improve technologies we use for decision making.Anyone who thinks you can contribute: Meteor/CoffeeScript developers, people with experience with Cordova to port to mobile, designers (currently has only default colors, no responsive stuff), testers, people interested in discussing features, processes, voting and decision making systems, math, security, etc.

A community portal for wireless community networks (mesh networks)Mitarmitar.hack@tnode.com
https://dev.wlan-si.net/wiki/PiplMesh
In community wireless networks the question is how to connect visitors (users of the network) together. Captive portals can give them information, but the issue is that they are often static, without ways for them to see/meet/connect with other people using the network. The idea is to make captive portal useful by providing social interactions and local information to really build community around visitors.Current idea is to hack http://rocket.chat/ to support location information of people in the network (to which nodes they are connected) and then create automatic channels for them based on location. Also make Rocket Chat not require registration to participate. And integrate it with a captive portal like https://github.com/sudomesh/garden-gnome Connect with geo data like LocalWiki, OpenStreetMap, etc.

Cop Radio Scanner (Java)Brendanbrendanvg10@gmail.com
https://github.com/P25Scanners/hack-the-left/blob/master/README.md
To Do's: Create a rtl-sdr driver (JAVA) for P25 scanning.

Vision: Once an rtl-sdr driver is written, anyone can set up a police recording station for the cheap price of $19 (an rtl-sdr). The recordings will be databased into an archive which can be used for evidence in police-related violence cases. There is also some talk of later on running the recordings through a text-processing engine and perhaps adding some automatic functionality when search-words are found- like dropping pins on addresses, or warning people if they're near an address.... But first, we just need a simple rtl-sdr driver...There are cop radio apps out there, but they only let you listen... this will let anyone across the country, and for very cheap, set up a recording station (computer + $19 rtl-sdr)!
Someone who knows Java! Or someone who's willing to try and figure a bit of it out :)
