CALL GOVERNOR CUOMO ON THURSDAY TO STOP THE IDC DEAL THAT REWARDS DEMOCRATIC SENATORS WHO DO NOT REPRESENT THEIR CONSTITUENTS
On Monday, Governor Cuomo and leaders of the state Democratic party announced a proposal to reunite the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC) with the mainstream Senate Democrats.
The IDC is a breakaway bloc of eight Democratic senators whose power-sharing arrangement with the Republicans has for years allowed a Republican to be the NY Senate majority leader, despite the GOP holding fewer Senate seats.
Because these turn-coat Democrats give the Republicans power, most progressive legislation backed by the majority of NYERs, especially crucial now with Trump, has not even gotten to a vote.

The deal put forth this week would reward the IDC for years of colluding with Republicans by:
Granting the IDC’s leader, Senator Jeff Klein, approval over which bills will be voted on in the Senate
Giving Klein a role in budget and bill negotiations with the Governor and Speaker of the Assembly
Allowing the IDC to approve the Democratic Deputy Majority Leader of the Senate (currently Senator Michael Gianaris)
Promising the IDC Senators that the Democratic party won’t participate in any primary challenges against them
Here's an article about it: https://www.politico.com/state s/new-york/albany/story/2017/1 1/27/democrats-in-senate-react -warmly-to-potential-reunifica tion-plan-123230
GOVERNOR CUOMO's number: 518-474-8390 (#2 for a live person)
|SAMPLE SCRIPT: “Hi, my name is [___] and I live in New York.|
I'm calling about Governor Cuomo's support of the deal to reunite the IDC Senators with the mainstream Democratic Conference.
This is a terrible deal and Governor Cuomo should withdraw it immediately.
The IDC members have betrayed their constituents by handing control of the Senate to the Republicans and by blocking important progressive legislation.
How can the IDC claim to support the very legislation that their alliance ensures will never come up for a vote?
This deal rewards them for their years of collusion with the Republicans, and would give them a leadership position in the Senate that they do not deserve.
It would also dilute the position of Andrea Stewart-Cousins, who otherwise would be the Senate's first female African-American majority leader.
The IDC should rejoin the Democratic majority, or expect to face primaries in their district.
We are Democrats, we vote for Democrats, and we want our elected to actually be democrats-- this means passing progressive legislation
Governor Cuomo’s support of this deal fails his fellow Democrats.”
