Illinois State University Normal, ILhttps://illinoisstate.edu/
4 Year University : Illinois State University (ISU) is a 4-year public university located in Normal, Illinois, offering over 160 undergraduate majors and 90 graduate programs across six academic colleges. ISU emphasizes hands-on learning, leadership, and community engagement, maintaining one of the highest student retention and graduation rates in the state.

The campus provides on-campus housing for first-year and upper-division students, with both residence halls and apartment-style options. Tuition and fees are competitively priced for in-state and out-of-state students, and ISU offers a range of academic, merit-based, and leadership scholarships.

Known for its Redbird spirit, ISU fosters a strong sense of pride, tradition, and involvement through athletics, student organizations, and community events. The Illinois State University Cheerleading Program proudly represents ISU as the official collegiate cheer team, competing at the UCA College Nationals and expanding into NCA competition. The program emphasizes leadership, teamwork, and personal growth—developing student-athletes who excel both on the sidelines and beyond the classroom.
Gameday, Competitive, Coed, All-Girl, Special Events and School Engagement
The Illinois State University Cheerleading Program is the official cheerleading team for ISU, representing the university in both Competition and Gameday. We are part of the ISU Athletics Department, giving our athletes access to exceptional resources, facilities, and support as a fully recognized Division I program.

ISU Cheer features two squads—Coed and All-Girl—that cheer for all football, volleyball, men’s and women’s basketball games, as well as university, athletic, and community events. Our athletes are also active in volunteering, fundraising, and alumni engagement, proudly showcasing Redbird pride on and off campus. It’s a busy but incredibly fun and rewarding program—perfect for athletes who want the full college cheer experience. If you’re only interested in competing once a year and not wanting to cheer any D1 Games or cheer at extra events, the club team may be a better fit.

We currently compete at UCA College Nationals and will soon expand into both UCA and NCA competitions. As the official team, members receive school-issued gear, uniforms, and warm-ups, with no annual cost exceeding $350.

ISU Cheer is one of the top programs in Illinois, offering the best overall Division I gameday and competition experience in the state. We’re an up-and-coming program with a bright future, and we’re looking for passionate athletes who want to be part of something special.
NO
NIL is available privately but not through the university.
The Illinois State University Cheerleading Program conducts an open-gym style pre-tryout followed by a two-session formal tryout process. The open gym allows athletes to meet the coaching staff, review skills, and get comfortable with expectations prior to the evaluation days.

During the official tryouts, athletes are assessed on stunting, tumbling, jumps, motions, voice projection, and overall performance ability, as well as attitude, teamwork, and coachability. Both Coed and All-Girl squads require strong stunt technique, body control, and a positive, team-oriented presence. Standing and running tumbling are required for every position. (Standing Back Tucks Minimum - AG Full-Ups is the starting skill - Coed Bump-N-Go Extension is the starting skill) Skills required are released at the clinic prior to tryouts.

Selections are based on overall fit, skill level, leadership potential, and ability to represent ISU Cheer’s standard of excellence. While the process is competitive, the environment is supportive and energetic—reflecting the culture of our program.
