This worksheet is intended to be used as a guide to ensure that your GPA Calculations are accurate. You are not required to upload this worksheet in order for your application

to be considered complete, but you are welcome to to upload this document to show your work.

The "Grades" page of the MSSE application includes five different GPA calculations. The MSSE program requires that applicants submit only three:

(1) Cumulative Undergraduate GPA

(2) Graduate GPA (if relevant)

(3) Advanced Undergraduate GPA

Instructions for calculating these three required values are included below.

Students are not required to submit calculations in the fields that read:

"GPA for courses in the major field of study", or

"If your intended field of study was not your major for your Undergraduate degree, please calculate the GPA for all courses listed on your transcript(s) that relate to the field of study for which you are applying."

(1) Cumulative Undergraduate GPA

Enter your Grade Point Average as a value between 0.00 and 4.00, as determined by your undergraduate institution. This number is likely accessible on your undergraduate transcript.

If your GPA is not based on a 4-point scale, leave this field blank and instead fill out the field labeled "Other Scale GPA."

If you have not yet completed your undergraduate study, include your current cumulative GPA.

(3) Advanced Undergraduate GPA

The Advanced Undergraduate GPA is the most complicated of the three, as it is unlikely that your undergraduate institution calculated this number for you.

Berkeley assigns a numerical value to letter grades (listed below). Please use our scale, even if your school assigns different values to letter grades.

If your school uses a grading system other than A-F, don't try to convert it. You may leave this section blank.

In order to calculate your Advanced Undergraduate GPA, please count all undergraduate courses for which you have received a letter grade after the first two years of study. Count the number of units/credits

for which you've earned an "A" and plug this number into the "A" row (below) under "units." Do the same for A-, B+, B, etc. If you have a mixture of quarter and semester units, before including quarter units in the calculator, convert

them to semester units using the formula [quarter units x 2/3 = semester units]. Include any transfer credits (from community college, study abroad, etc.) only if they were accepted by the degree granting institution

and included in your cumulative GPA calculation.
