3/23/2017 22:35:10(2:15)Anabel RodriguezI believe that blogs and wikis are great websites because it provides different kind of documents, therefore the readers get different ideas and point of views.

Is journal like an outline, where we have to write everything that we going to talk about in the essay?
it's more like practice or prewriting

3/25/2017 0:34:34(2:15)XiuYan,JinI like the TIPS FOR JOURNALS. At before , I didn't know what is requirement for English Journal. I thought to write journal is just write what ever you want on your note book , that's it. After reading the Tips for Journals, I feel that writing journal is not as easy as I thought . I definitely have to work on it.there are many types of journals; more informal, personal ones, and others, like this one, where you are trying to practice how to write

3/25/2017 14:38:34(2:15)Ni Ouyang"Online Writing=21st Century Writing" gave us a general point of using web based writing instead of traditional paper writing. Using this type of writing is efficient and easy to share. We are trying to adapt to this kind of writing in our ENG 102 class.
A good journal entry contains an introduction to your topic. Demonstrate your understanding and support it with prove from the text. Also let the reader know your purpose of writing the essay. If you use other relevant ideas beyond the essay you have to link the source.

3/26/2017 13:19:28(5:45)Eloina LozanoWhen i read the poem the first time ("Song for a Dark Girl") i didn't really understood and read over and over again when i finally understood something , but them during the class i found out that it can have many meaning if you read and pay attention to every single word because even thought it says something it can have different meanings. so is good to be open minded to everything.yes, but what is your questions about today's reading?

3/26/2017 18:03:56(2:15)eliott figueroa jrfor every journal entry is it required to put an image?

3/26/2017 19:34:32(5:45)Arlene OrtizIn the past, my journal entries have not had any type of structure. It was always free-writing on the given topic. Free-writing was always my favorite form of writing because it helped get everything that was on my mind, down on paper. Later I would structure it and create an essay. Would free-writing still be acceptable as a journal entry? No, but you can write more than the journals I require, and for those you could free-write

3/27/2017 19:51:38(2:15)Genesis Chiriboga Will the journal include our own opinion about the topic or is just an explanation of the topic? YES

3/27/2017 20:04:46(5:45)Francisco RussoIts amazing how much computers and the internet have impacted our lives and how easily we are connected to all the information we need from blogs, websites, etc. Thus giving us a way to interpret ideas and share our own ideas from all around the world. I also think these were very helpful tips for writing journals because it organizes all my ideas or research information that I have found as well as add links to the original sites to be sure that my information and examples are accurate and cited. very true

3/27/2017 20:33:49(5:45)Deana L.I used to write blogs on MySpace for my poetry and I remember how nervous I was because other people could see it. I still do not like to share my work and I'm not sure how I'm going to react to this... the journal can only be seen by your classmates and they are all on the same boat; it will probably be all right, but if it isn't, tell me

3/27/2017 21:51:42(5:45)Angela DeridovichI found the "requirements and tips for journals" useful because I did not know how to properly write journal entries.good

3/27/2017 22:51:52(5:45)Joseph Intriago 1. According to the holistic criteria for the evaluation of journal entries, if the journal entry ideas are in the beginning phase, what would be the boundaries necessary to sustain a developing thought?
2. What is meant by an idea not being "nonexistent", for instance if i were to agree/disagree on a matter, by presenting the proper evidence , can an idea still be deemed as "nonexistent"?
1. I don't understand the question; ask me again in class, please

2. No, it means the author did not write about the text(s) at all.

3/27/2017 23:43:36(5:45)Minha LeeI got too much used to online based documents so that I haven't noticed that most of the time information which I used to get from web consists of short paragraphs. 3/28/2017 1:16:31(5:45)Owen SmithThe online writing section talks about the fact that writing nowadays is much easier to access. That has affected literature in two ways.

The first is that the writing style has changed to adhere more to the reader and the reader's potential lack of focus. Since lots of writing on the web, be it articles, dictionaries, encyclopedias, and even novels are so easily accessible, the writing style has changed to grab the readers attention. Since the general population of online readers have been privileged with a style that is potentially more intriguing and adhering to a new found need for instant gratification, the general population of readers have developed a shorter attention span for reading.

The second is that since writing is generally more accessible via the internet, a greater percentage of the population has the opportunity to read, and will read. There was a time in this country where 20% of our population was illiterate, now it is down to below 0.6%, according to the National center for Education Statistics.

While writing is generally more accessible, book sales have plummeted. Which basically implies that while more people are reading in this country, the quality of reading has also plummeted. It would be like the difference between reading a well known, sophisticatedly written novel, and a Buzzfeed article, found on Facebook about something irrelevant that you clicked on because the title was a cliffhanger.

With those thoughts in mind, my question, which is more of a philosophical one than a question with an attainable answer, is; has this recent change in writing helped the general intelligence of our population or hurt it?'
Tough question. First, where did you get your information about book sales plummetting? Do these figures include e-books?

I read an interesting article a few months ago about a study that found that the writing errors students make now are the same in number from, say the early 20th century. But the errors are different (before: more spelling errors; now: more run on sentences, for example). At the same time, the amount of writing we do has tripled (or something like it).

It is my inexpert opinion that reading follows a somewhat similar pattern. And, in terms of depth, I am not sure. Before JSTOR existed, very few professors would have asked undergraduates to read/use the typical JSTOR article in a paper, and definitively not several. Our current ability to access high-quality texts allows us to work at a new level....things to think about
