Prior to her death in 1965, Pearl Hull Falk resided in Iowa City where her husband was a prominent banker during the early 1900's. The trust was established under the Last Will and Testament of Mrs. Falk to provide annual scholarships to needy and worthy students attending the University of Iowa. Each recipient of the Pearl Hull Falk Scholarship must be: of Protestant faith; a resident of the State of Iowa; a full-time student at the University of Iowa. At least one of the recipients must be a member of an Episcopal Church, and at least one must be a young man who shows interest in and promise for a career in banking. All recipients must be of good character and have a good scholastic record.

The purpose of the scholarship is to assist individuals to further their education. The committee will consider variations of a four-year undergrad period (such as time off for a church mission or other service) as long as the student returns as a full-time undergraduate student. During her 23-year term, the Girls' State Junior, Forever 39, State Wife-Husband, and Senior Women's Championships were started. Ann was inducted into the Iowa Golf Hall of Fame in 2006 to honor her contributions to the game. The Iowa Golf Association Foundation was established to preserve the game and develop more programs to promote the future of golf in Iowa. The IGAF awards $2000 Ann Griffel Scholarships to Iowa high school senior girls who intend to further their education at an Iowa institution of higher learning, whether a college, university or trade school. Scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, extracurricular activities and leadership qualities, not on golf accomplishments or ability. He joined the teaching staff of Dunkerton Community School in 1966 and for the next 21 years, he served as the FFA advisor,Vocational Agriculture, and Senior Science teacher. Lyles and his first wife had 3 children that all graduated from Dunkerton Community School. Lyle and his wife Elizabeth had 2 sons who graduated from East Buchanan when Lyle retired from teaching to return to the family farm near Winthrop. Several of his grandchildren have graduated from Dunkerton High School and now many of his great grandchildren attend DHS. This scholarship is awarded to honor a student that best exemplifies the life of Lyle Bare and his passion for agriculture, education, and science. Selection criteria is based upon a priority of an active farm background. Additional qualifications include FFA and/or 4H participation, or seeking an agricultural or teaching degree.

Juanita served on the Dunkerton School Board for over 20 years, serving as the board president for many of those years. She was honored by the State of Iowa as a rural school board member of the year. Both Juanita and John gave countless hours volunteering for their church family. John was active with the Awana club, taught Sunday School, sang during services, and participated in church plays. Their legacy lives on through their family who continue to volunteer, work, and farm in the Dunkerton area.
