As part of the story, The New York Times released 80 pages of emails they obtained, as a single PDF.

Factba.se pulled the data in to structure the data. As part of the process, we confirmed all email addresses were removed. Where possible, names were reconstructed based on the visibile data to identify office / post / job / position

To ingest into our database, we needed to structure the data via the Factba.se platform. The text was re-OCRed by our bots. The output is available as follows:

The Google Sheet and Excel are identical. They contain five tabs:

An index of the names in the emails. Where possible, extended information was added. The senders are all identified, while recipients may not all have information other than their name.

This includes a reference to all emails where the person is the author, the recipient or CCed.

A chronological index of the individual emails, with the list of recipients as can best be identified and other meta information

The text, structured and identified by the author. When a forwarded message indicates the actual author, that name is used for the portion originally authored by a different person.

An audit trail by email of the To, From and CC, with the raw identifying information and the name mapped to that information.

We offer the structured version of the emails received via FOIA by The New York Times without restriction. Any credit or attribution belongs to The New York Times.
