(1)To start, enter the list of students you want to track in the 'formative' worksheet under "Student Name."

(2)Enter your students' pre-test scores.

(3)You may choose to individualize growth targets student-by-student if desired. You may also choose to use a set of pre-set targets, or even use a combination of pre-set and individualized targets. On the 'formative' worksheet, individualized targets can be set by inputting growth targets directly into the "Custom Growth Targets" column. Alternatively or additionally, navigate to the 'tiered targets' worksheet to adjust the pre-set growth targets and pre-test score ranges for each target. Use of pre-sets may save you time, but they may not be appropriate in all situations. Note that the custom target will always take priority if one is entered.

(4)Also on the 'tiered targets' worksheet, be sure to indicate the minimum and maximum possible scores on the applicable assessment. This information will be used to calculate your students' progress toward their SLO growth targets as you enter formative assessment scores throughout the interval of instruction. See steps 5 and 6 below for further details.

(5)Guesstimate the number of formative assessments you will give from the time of pretest to the time of posttest. Enter that number at the top of the 'formative' worksheet.

(6)Track scores for each formative assessment you administer. The workbook will provide feedback about each student's progress toward your growth target. Note that this feedback will be misleading if your formative assessments have a different range of scores compared to the summative assessment for measuring SLO attainment.

(7)On the 'formative' tab, enter the posttest scores for each student.

Review your results on the 'summative' and 'dashboard' tabs.
