About Us

Where did this idea come from?

I quickly recognised that my personal heartbreak of not being able to be with my family back home in Malaysia at this time
is something quite universally experienced by not only those of us who celebrate LNY, but all of us. Most recently over
Christmas and New Year. So what was supposed to be hosting one intimate gathering on the first day of LNY quickly
snowballed into wondering about the possibility of empowering others like me to share their offerings too. All as a way to
bring together those like me who won’t be able to visit their family for LNY this year. Either through participating in events
or the joys of gift giving. Watching the Korean film ‘Parasite’ really hit a nerve in me regarding the privilege gaps across
the world which has only exacerbated over the pandemic, so I knew I wanted to raise money to address this matter as
my way of utilising the privilege I have.

Where are the donations directed?

Funds will be divided across nominated charities supporting the un-homed and the elderly. Growing list here.

What is #kindredpacket about?

@kindredpacket is an initiative to encourage E/SEAsian folx to host a virtual gathering and connect with their family,
friends and community and an opportunity for everyone else to be immersed in this tradition and support E/SEAsian
voices and businesses. All whilst raising funds for a good cause.

Why #kampaign?

#kampaign is a spin on the founder's name, David Kam who was inspired by a hashtag his yoga students has created
for him ie. #keepkam. When he’s not busy preparing a #kindredpacket, he works within the intersections of movement,
community and wellbeing. You can find him @davidkamkw.
