Title: Balanced Calendar
A balanced calendar system (previously called Year Round Schooling) would call for school to begin earlier than Labor Day and go longer into June, but allows for breaks throughout the school year.
6
Result Statement:
A balanced calendar will allow for:
a.) students to increase or maintain reading and math proficiency over the traditional September-June calendar. Students often experience a signficant loss in reading and math scores over the summer break (AKA summer learning loss/summer slide).
b.) students who attend voluntary intersessions for enrichment or remediation to maintain or increase academic and personal growth.
c.) staff and students to miss fewer days of school due to breaks being spread throughout the year.
d.) staff and students to have a more positive opinion of school by reducing burn out and promoting positive morale through the redistribution of the instructional days.
