Infrastructure and WebmakingWhen we want to build a webapp or simply use the Webmaker tools (and others) in places where the Internet connexion is low or simply we want to adapt to the needs of our community, there is always the question: how I do this? In this course, we will come with exemples of success stories, tools and ways to figure out when we need to set-up our own infrastructure and when to go to the cloud. Expect learning tips and tricks about: Linux server set-up, wikis, Python, git, Rasberry Pi and Arduino Clusters. "Infrastructure" itself is a 100% making activity and we will try to make it fun. Learning to make mobile HTML5 games (developing the course)Whether you're installing it on a Firefox OS device, playing it on your Android or iPhone/iPad in a browser, mobile HTML5 games can be viewed & played on any web-enabled device and so are a wonderful subject for teaching both kids and adults the power of the open web. It includes learning some HTML/CSS/Javascript and then also we'll try to dig in to ways to teach basic game building for mobile devices in generic ways. I currently have a very hacked together workshop that leverages existing code http://lsblakk.github.com/browser-pairs/ (code: https://github.com/lsblakk/browser-pairs) blog post on the initial workshop is here: http://lukasblakk.com/creating-a-mozilla-workshop-for-beginner-hacking-of-mobile-html5-games/ -- Am looking to expand this into a more portable hacktivity kit (https://github.com/LauraHilliger/hacktivityKits) so anyone can do this anywhere with a variety of learners and as a longer workshop. So the goal of this group would be to work on that and get learners ready & able to take this course into the world.Lukas Blakk (@lsblakk)lsblakk@mozilla.comemail,twitter,#mobileappcoursetbdtomsalmon @fishytom G+ Thomas Salmon

Hive Learning NetworkHive Learning Networks >> What does #teachtheweb mean in a local context where we interact, teach, mentor, learn and interact with makers of all ages everyday? Mozilla Hive NYC Learning Network is a city-wide learning lab where educators, makers and other experts build and share innovative, connected educational experiences for youth. Hive NYC members include museums, libraries, code clubs, after-school programs and maker spaces. Together, these institutions and their members create a network of opportunities that prepare teens for success. Hive Learning Networks currently exist in Chicago, Pittsburgh, Toronto, Athens, Greece and are getting started in the Bay Area, Berlin and maybe somewhere near you!
