Presentation Title: Let’s Sample Together: Turnitin Framework and Turnitin LTI paired with Canvas -
Description:
Did you just get accustomed to Turnitin’s funky Feedback Studio? Next your campus is migrating to Canvas and now you have two Turnitin flavors: Turnitin Framework and Turnitin LTI. Let’s sample Turnitin Framework and LTI together. While both generate a Similarity Report, Framework allows instructors to leverage Canvas’ native SpeedGrader (annotation, feedback, and rubric/grading tools); meanwhile, the LTI gives instructors access to the Turnitin Feedback Studio and their legacy rubrics.

Title: Using Knowledge Surveys to Measure Impact in Faculty Professional Development
Description: We will share how we adapted knowledge surveys to measure impact in our faculty course redesign/eLearning programming using the QLT Framework. Knowledge surveys are often used as a student course activity that employs confidence judgments to promote self-reflection, metacognition and improve calibration. Additionally, we will discuss the results of our implementation and demonstrate its application in faculty professional development contexts.

May (28)Sue Germer (PlayPosit) and Professor Bob Meeds, CSUF Dept. of Communications
(Portfolium)
2 Presentations: PlayPosit and Portfolium (Via Fullerton)

Portfolium Presentation Title: Incorporating e‐Portfolios into Assessment for a New Digital Skills Competency Requirement for Communications Department Majors
Description:
This presentation describes a pilot test for developing a digital skills assessment for the Communications Department and administering the assessments through Portfolium. We found some particularly attractive features in the program such as its integration with Titanium and the ability to archive student work to be assessed at a later date.

PlayPosit Presentation -
Description:
Join us on May 28 where PlayPosit’s Co-Founder will present on PlayPosit’s redesigned platform -- PlayPosit 3.0! The goal behind the “redesign” is to simultaneously better support instructors who struggle with technology but still want their students to learn AND empower instructors and instructional designers who yearn for more granular controls over interactions to create immersive and pedagogically focused video based experiences. Some notable new features/functionalities are:
Rich Text Editor Reboot -- Video Recording: Now, instructors can directly record themselves into any question, answer choice or feedback they are leaving for learners. In turn, learners can respond to questions and contribute to discussion forums with a video response.

 Easy Peer Review: Instructors can allow learners to directly share their recordings for feedback with a group of students.

 Group Projects: Learners can work together to finish bulbs.

 Hot Spots: You can now set interactions to appear in "hotspots", or video overlays, to better control when and how your learners interact with a video.
 Nonlinear Storylines: Easier Editing of Multiple Video Segments
When you have multiple videos in a bulb, you can now see and edit them all at once as a single video stream, allowing for a faster and more intuitive editing process.
 New Content Host Integrations: We’re working with Alexander Street and NBC Learn to help mutual clients get more out of their content.

August (27)Professor Ji Song from CSULACampus updates (15 minutes) -
Title: The "Better Book" Approach: A Free Interactive Introductory Statistics Textbook that Improves Continuously
Description: We have developed an introductory statistics textbook based on a new model for education research and development - the better book approach. The better book approach leverages recent advances in technology that have made it possible to house learning materials such as textbooks online; to make them interactive (by including, for example, embedded formative assessments); and to continuously update them based on data generated by students’ interactions with the materials. Using these technologies, we have developed a model in which a living textbook is continuously improved by a community of researchers, designers/developers, and instructors; and a technology platform (CourseKata.org) to support the collaborative improvement process. This approach overcomes some of the obstacles that have slowed translation of research in the learning sciences into improved educational programs and materials.

The statistics curriculum instantiated in the book is also innovative because it draws on latest advances in learning science and statistics education. Students of introductory statistics gain some knowledge of a large assortment of statistical concepts and tests, yet often fail to comprehend the core ideas that link these concepts and procedures together. In order to give students a more coherent view of statistics, and thus a more flexible understanding that can be applied appropriately across a number of situations, this textbook teaches the introductory course as modeling. We will present some of our early data on student learning and how students use a fully interactive online textbook.
