Saturday morning Cricket will be starting very soon!
This is a great chance to get involved for both experienced and brand new players.
If you would like to play cricket for Ross Intermediate on a Saturday morning please complete the sports registration form using the link at the bottom of this email.
Hours of play are generally 8.30am to 11.30am every Saturday morning. The season starts on the 10th of February.
There will be at least one school practice per week with the day still to be determined.
The majority of games will be played in Palmerston North, however, there may be need for travel to Levin and/or Dannevirke. All gear will be provided for those that do not have their own.

Registrations are now open for Badminton in Term 1. Games will be played in teams of two on a Thursday night at the B&M Centre Arena Manawatu. There will be practices in the school gym every Tuesday lunch time.
Please take this information home and have a chat with an adult before registering. You will need to have your own badminton racquet and correct sports uniform to play.
Dates: 15th February – 12th April 2018 (no play 22nd March).
Times: 4.30pm-6pm.
Venue: B&M Centre Arena Manawatu.
Registrations close this Thursday 8th February.

It's a wonderful time of year if you're interested in playing Volleyball for Ross Intermediate. Here are some brief details which you need to discuss with your parents if you intend to play.
The League will start on Monday 12th February.
Game dates are:
February 12th, 19th, 26th
March 5th, 12th, 26th, (NO Volleyball on 19th Due To School Nationals)
April 9th (Easter Monday No Volleyball)
The League is Open to Year 7 and 8 Teams. Games will start from 3:55pm and will consist of a 5 minute warm up period followed by a 40 minute game time. Teams will be required to be in a school sports uniform and must have suitable footwear; - sandals or bare feet will not be allowed.

Summer HockeyAnita BorgerAre you interested in playing Summer Hockey?
If you are, please read the information below carefully and talk to an adult at home before signing up.
Venue: Twin Turfs, Manawaroa Street, Palmerston North
Competition Start: Thursday 22nd February and ends Thursday 29th March 2018.
No fees, but all players must have their own:
Hockey stick
Shin pads with appropriate socks
Mouthguard
Ross PE uniform
Appropriate sports shoes
No trials are held for summer hockey. You can decide to play either Serious or Social. (Serious is for experienced hockey players)
Organisation will be emailed out once teams have been registered and draws have been done. Games generally run between 4pm to 6pm.
Registrations close on Friday afternoon.

If you love dancing, singing, drama and performing on the stage, then Theatre Academy might just be for you.
Theatre Academy is an auditioned group and it runs as a Friday programme all year. You will learn about singing, dancing and acting. It is all about performing on the stage, in all three disciplines - you will become a triple threat.
Auditions will be on Friday 2 March - 9.15am in the Hall. For your audition, you need to perform the attached poem - you can interpret this how you like and perform it how you like. Please know this poem by memory - you have three weeks to learn it, which is plenty of time.
To register for the audition, please fill in this form by Friday 16th Feb. Please only register if you intend to audition.

If you love dancing and performing on the stage, then Dance Academy might just be for you.
Dance Academy is an auditioned group and it runs as a Friday programme all year. You will learn different styles of dance, watch dance in action, choreograph dance and perform dance in competitions. While dance experience is helpful, it is not essential.
On Wednesday 14th February, lunchtime, in the Hall, I will be teaching the audition dance. It is important you attend this session. If you cannot not attend this session - please let me know ASAP.
Auditions will be next Friday 16th February - 9.15am in the Hall. You will audition in groups of five. Please ensure you are in your PE gear.
To register for the audition, please fill in this form by MONDAY 12th Feb. Please only register if you intend to audition.

BOYS AND GIRLS! If you love singing and performing on the stage, then Voicestra (our school choir) might just be for you.
In 2018, Voicestra is an auditioned group and it runs as a Friday programme all year. You will learn different styles of songs and perform in competitions and public settings, such as Super Arts Choir which will take place later this year and the Rotary Youth Music Festival. While singing experience is helpful, it is not essential.
Please Note: Returning Year 8 students who were in the Choir last year or have spoken to me about joining Choir will not need to audition. Auditions will be for Year 7 students and new Year 8s only if the number of students interested in joining is high. You still need to complete the registration form however.
Auditions will be in small groups.
On Thursday 14th February, lunchtime, in the Music Room, I will be teaching the audition song. It is important you attend this session. If you cannot not attend this session - please let me know ASAP.
To register for the Choir and auditions, please fill in this form by TUESDAY 13th February. Please only register if you intend to join Voicestra.
A reminder that this programme is FREE and runs ALL YEAR. Please only sign up if you are serious and 100% committed for the entire year. Voicestra's official start date will most likely be Friday of Week 5, and will run from 9am - 10am.
Please note that some arts groups may clash in the Friday timetable. If you get into more than one group that meet at the same time, you will need to choose between them. Please go for everything you are interested in, though, so that you will have the choice.

If you play guitar, drums, keyboards, bass or can sing confidently and want to be part a group that performs and develops their musicianship together then you should audition for the band.
I am open to other instruments joining the band.
The band is an auditioned group that runs all year as a Friday programme from 11:30am to 12:30pm. You will develop your skills as a musician, perform and learn to play rock and pop songs with others.
Register for auditions here by Wednesday 14th Feb.
I will let those who have signed up know when auditions will be held
​If you sign up, please prepare yourself by selecting and rehearsing a 30 second section of a song that you think the band should perform.

SuperSport Tennis is to be held at the Whanganui Tennis Club, Bassett Street, Whanganui on 7 March 2018 with a postponement date of 9 March 2018.
Ross will take 4 boys and 4 girls for boys and girls singles and doubles as well as mixed doubles.
Trials will be held on Friday 20th February on the quad. You will need a tennis racket, please let me know if you do not have one. If you really want to trial and can not make it on the 20th please let me know.

If you are a great cyclist, swimmer or runner, then this may be for you.
I am asking for our top cyclists, swimmers and runners in each of the following categories:
Year 7 Girls
Year 7 Boys
Year 8 Girls
Year 8 Boys
The Supersport Triathlon will be held in Whanganui on Wednesday the 21st March, and we would love to bring home our first SS banner for 2018.
The triathlon will be run in teams of three, where each person does one leg of the race i.e 7km bike ride, 200m swim or 2km run. Therefore, I need our top runner, swimmer and cyclist from each of the aforementioned groups.
Where there are several names provided for one spot, we will take into consideration your most recent race times and/or have a trial.
To sign up and register your interest in this opportunity, please complete this form.
Under sport, please put Triathlon followed by the discipline that you are signing up for e.g Triathlon - Run ; Triathlon - Swim or Triathlon - Bike.

Canoe PoloWayne JenkinsHi school,
The time to sign up for Canoe Polo has arrived.
PLEASE check with parents before signing up.
This is on Thursday nights through Term 2 and Term 3, starting on May 3.
Games are at Freyberg and Makino pools.
Games start from 7pm.
The competition will start a bit differently this year. Rather than going straight into games we'll have skills development sessions for the first few weeks. All the children from your school will be together training as a squad with both on water and off water sessions.
A volunteer coach will be provided for each team - this will be an experienced player who can help with skills and rules. We will still require a parent to oversee each team.

Super Sport Mountain BikingClare MutchAre you a mountain biker?
If so you may want to consider being part of a Ross Super Sports Mountain Bike Team.
We will be running trials for this event and will be arranging dates to go to Wanganui to practice on the mountain bike tracks.
You do need to do mountain biking on a regular basis in order to be part of the SS team.
The event is on Wednesday 11th April which is in Week 11, our last week of school for Term 1
