This Quality Self-Assessment tool was designed by a collectin of local out of school time stakeholders and endorsed by the San Francicsco Afterschool for All Advisory Council. It was designed around the California Afterschool Network's Quality Self-Assessment Tool. This version of this local San Francisco Quality Self‐Assessment (QSA) tool is designed for community‐based afterschool programs, or those programs that are based at a community location other than a school.

There are 11 sections in this assessment tool and each section is further divided into more specific categories. Each category are then graded under 3 different scales: Low quality, Approaching quality, and Quality.

There are four sections of the QSA that require ONLY evidence of policies and procedures: Sections 1, 2, 3 and 7. These sections do not have an observation component, but can be reflected upon and discussed. There are seven sections of the QSA (Sections 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11) that require that you observe the program in action and rate the quality of programming observed.

You can use this tool to store how you rate your program in each of the sections or to rate your program in all sections. There is also a "NOTE" area where you can input your observations, thoughts, and ideas as you use the tool. There are seven sections of the QSA that require you or someone to observe your program and use the quality indicators in the tool to rate the quality of the programming. These sections are: Sections 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11.

After you input scores and notes into this tool, please be sure to save the file to a location where you can access it again in the future. Any data you enter into this tool will NOT be saved online.
