What is a Lightning Talks
19
Lightning Talks are brief presentations that focus on a single topic, example, idea, project, or technique. Lightning Talks do not attempt to cover all aspects of their subject matter, but present one facet of the idea clearly and succinctly. A Lightning Talk is an enabler. It may kick-start a conversation to solve a really interesting problem. Maybe it exposes an idea that will grow into a new product feature. Perhaps it grows your company’s work culture by breaking up the week and getting people together to talk about genuinely interesting topics.

Note: this is not an opportunity to sell a service or software.

You have five minutes, and the timebox is strict. Coming in under five minutes is okay; extending beyond five minutes is not. Also, you must use no more than eight slides.

TIPS!
28
✦ Get to the point quickly; invest no more than one minute on setup and background.
29
✦ Select a relevant topic for the audience.
30
✦ Share one great idea.
31
✦ Tell a story; storytelling is universal and we all have a story to tell.
32
✦ Show passion for an idea; spread your joy.
33
✦ Share information and resist the temptation to explain in detail.
34
✦ Delivery is as important as content.
35
✦ Use more pictures and fewer words; if you use text, make sure it is at least 50 pts.
36
✦ Remember the audience is on your side.
37
✦ Practice, practice, practice--with a timer.
38
✦ End strong and “power wrap” your lightning talk--restate your one great idea.
