Gov. Abbott has called a special 30 day session to waste taxpayer dollars and legislators’ time on bogus issues. Join Lubbock Democrats as we call on the governor and elected Republicans to reject the hateful bathroom bill, school vouchers, and Dan Patrick’s anything-but-property-tax-relief bill. Help us hold Reps. John Frullo and Dustin Burrows and Sen. Charles Perry accountable!

Join NARAL Pro-Choice Texas and the TEA Fund for a special screening of Birthright, a documentary about women who have become collateral damage in the aggressive campaign to take control of reproductive health care and to allow states, courts and religious doctrine to govern whether, when and how women will bear children. There will be a panel discussion following the screening featuring leaders from community organizations who are fighting on the ground to expand access to reproductive health care.

JOIN US FOR THE PEOPLE'S HEARING. When extreme Texas politicians want to block us from their process, we bring the process home.

When regressive politicians want to harm our communities by making their own rules in order to pass damaging legislation, we re-write the rules.

The Texas Legislature has been creating some of the most oppressive legislation in recent history by holding a "Special Session" and blocking Texans from the process -- all to pass laws that do not align with the values of Houstonians or Texans.

Bring your 2-minute testimony for submission to the public record. Share your story about how you or your family will be impacted by the laws they aim to pass:

Anti-trans bathroom ban
Restrictions to Abortion Access & targeting of doctors
Legislative attacks affecting communities of color and immigrants
Subsidies for Private Schooling
Threats to Public Education
Property Tax "Reforms"
Public School "Finance Reform"
Limiting of Local Government
Restrictions to Workers Ability to Organize

Press Conference in Houston-Commmunity Opposition to SB4
https://actionnetwork.org/events/statewide-press-conference-for-sb4?source=direct_link
We will come together on August 1, 2017, at 11 am (location TBD) for a press conference to stand solidly in opposition to SB4, the 'show me your papers' law that devastates mixed status and undocumented immigrant families and results in racial profiling of all communities of color. The equivalent law in Arizona contributed to a mass exodus of 200,000 immigrants to neighboring states. With them, they took their labor, businesses, purchasing power, and housing demand. They also took the rich diversity they added to the communities they fled. We have to send a strong message to our elected officials that we will not sit idly by as our city and state are ravaged.
