This document outlines general steps the Collective ecosystem can take on its journey towards ever-increasing levels of decentralization and governance minimization. It is not a roadmap, but rather a working model outlining the path the Foundation currently envisions. The actual path may deviate in response to dynamic conditions and execution that depends on contributions from a wide variety of contributors across the Collective. This model is meant to be directional, rather than prescriptive.

As these milestones focus on the transfer of control, they outline the parties that have authority over different elements of the governance system. “Governance participants” refers broadly to the voting constituency (of either House) empowered to make a decision or control an asset. This authority may often be delegated, to a subset of specific decision makers (see Decision Design Framework). These milestones remain unopinionated about the specific party responsible for making a decision, as we hope our governance system continuously re-evaluates the efficacy of different parties in making different decisions.

Legend

Green indicates the current state.
Yellow indicates the next milestones to be completed and will be updated as part of the Intent process at the start of each Season.

Black lines between milestones indicate dependencies. Milestones with dependencies may take longer to achieve.
Purple lines indicate interdependencies between layers. Milestones with dependencies between layers may take the longest to complete.

"Decision Module" refers to the corresponding decision module represented in the Decision Diagram.

"Possible Dependencies" will be continuously updated in collaboration with the community, in response to shared learnings and collaborative dialogue.

"Re-evaluation dates" are not completion dates, but rather dates at which the community should re-evaluate progress towards these milestones based on dynamic conditions, shared learnings and collaborative dialogue.
