WHAT IS THIS SPREADSHEET / DATABASE?-This multi-tab spreadsheet is a google sheets compilation of peer reviewed drama therapy theoretical publications in the past 20 years. This speadsheet is modeled after the NADTA's empirical research committee's spreadsheet (Rowe, C. (Ed.), 2023).
2
HOW IS IT ORGANIZED?- This version of the drama therapy theory reference list was created by the NADTA research committee (theory subcommittee) in 2023 and was made available to the public through a link on the NADTA Website [date TBD]. The reference list includes categories of year published, theory by journal, and alphabetically by first author surname.

- In three other tabs, references are also organized into content categories and sub-categories: 1) Established and Emerging Approaches and Theories 2) The Profession of Drama Therapy, 3) Integrated Theories: Sociocultural Theories 4) Integrated Theories: Psychology/Psychotherapy Theories 5) Integrated Theories: Other Theories. Individual articles may be present in several content categories and sub-categories (duplicate entries).
3
WHO MAINTAINS THIS DATABASE?- This drama therapy theoretical references database project is maintained by members of the NADTA research community who volunteer their time to search for newly published drama therapy theoretical articles, identify relevant content within the studies, and log the information on this database. Updates and improvements to the spreadsheet are ongoing, therefore some information may be missing or incorrect. For suggestions, corrections, or questions about this project, or to join the updating sub-committee, please email: research@nadta.org (other email?)

Suggested Reference for this Spreadsheet:
Cook, A. (Ed.). (2023). NADTA full theoretical reference list Google Sheets version: Information. (insert link)
4
WHAT IS THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT?- The aim of the project is to make drama therapy theoretical research more accessible and to identify themes and trends in drama therapy scholarship
- Each reference includes a doi.org hyperlink to the digital article location. If the study is open-access you will be able to access and read the full-text via the doi hyperlink. All other studies can be accessed through the author, journal publisher, academic libraries, or as a benefit associated with professional memberships (BADTh members have access to Dramatherapy; NADTA members have access to Drama Therapy Review).
5
WHAT IS THE INCLUSION CRITERIA FOR THIS REFERENCE LIST?- The aritcle must distinctly and uniquely consider drama therapy. That is, drama therapy must be the main focus of the scholarship. Theories focused on approaches such as Theatre of the Oppressed, Psychodrama, and Playback Theatre are included if the approach is centered within the theories and practice of drama therapy.
AND
- The study is theoretical scholarship which aligns with working definition of theory, " A set of integrated constructs (concepts), definitions, and propositions that present a systematic view of phenomena specifying relations among variables, with the purpose of explaining and predicting the phenomena." (Kerlinger, & Lee, 2000). Case studies can be included if the case study is used to illustrate the theory while keeping the theory central to the article.
AND
-The research must be published in English in a peer-reviewed journal.
6
