Working with the Lobbying Community

1. Determine and take your introductory step
5
Will you meet them at an event?
6
Will someone make an intro call/email for you? Will you make the initial call?
7
How you make the intro is not nearly as important as when - reach out early and often!
8
9
2. Follow up on your first step
10
If you met them at an event, or someone else made an intro, follow up ASAP
11
If you made the initial contact, follow up after 1 week
12
13
3. Continue following up on a weekly basis
14
Unless they've given you a specific date, continue to call weekly
15
16
4. Upon receiving a client donation, send a thank you!
17
If they haven't already maxed out their contribution, follow up with a call: thank you for the [$ ] donation, when can I expect the remaining amount?
18
19
5. Keep lobbyists updated on your campaign
20
Include them on major campaign updates/event invitation lists - give them abundant reasons for them to relay to their clients to encourage an investment in your campaign
21
22
**Lobbyists want to help you in more ways than just sending over a check. They're well-versed and well-connected individuals who can help you navigate people and policy in the political arena. Build these relationships - they're important!
