Keelboat Testing Parameters
6
1 - Basic Boathandling-All keelboat tests are done on a standard 3-mark test course
-An extra mark is dropped nearby to simulate a mooring landing
-All tests are conduted in Sonars
-On red flag days, tests are done with a FULL rig

1.1 - Tacks & Gybes are safe and controlled

1.2 - Demonstrates wind awareness, correct POS, proper headway

1.3 - Skipper gybes boat under full control of mainsheet
10
1.4 - Skipper communicates w/ crew for all maneuvers

2 - Rigging & Reefing & Unrigging

2.1 - Sailor demonstrates proper rigging of sails
13
2.2 - Sailor demonstrates proper OTW reefing of mainsail with no creases
14
2.3 - Sails tuned for conditions w/ vang, stay, outhaul, halyard
15
2.4 - Sails rolled and stowed correctly, cover attached
16
2.5 - Mooring line attached through chock to bow cleat
17
2.6 - All lines cleated and stowed correctly

3 - Heave - To

3.1 - Sailor brings the boat hove-to within boundaries of course

3.2 - Boat stays hove-to for at least two minutes

4 - Landing & Takeoff

6.1 - Boat departs mooring unassisted on first try, properly rigged
23
6.2 - Boat returns to mooring under controlled power at near-stop
24
6.5 - Boat catches mooring ball on first/second try & recovers quickly
25
6.4 - Boat arrives and departs through the hi-per channel

5 - Course Completion

7.1 - Boat rounds course until the instructor tells them to stop

7.2 - Course completed w/o a runaground/capsize/collision
29
7.3 - Sailor stays within 5 boatlenghts of the course at all times
30
7.4 - Mark roundings are alternated port-starboard/vice-versa
31
7.5 - Control of tiller and main is maintained

7.6 - Sailor remains facing forward

6 - Man Overboard Drill

8.1 - Drill completed in under 2 minutes

8.2 - MOB bucket picked up on windward side
36
8.3 - MOB bucket picked up at near-stop speed
37
8.4 - Boat does not strike MOB bucket at any point

8.5 - Boat stays within 4 boatlenghts of MOB w/ visual contact
