Air source heat pump - how do costs compare for family out of the house all day. Just now their oil system would be switched off and only run from e.g. 6pm-7am. Heat pump running 24/7.There are many variables including the efficiency of the current oil boiler and current unit fuel costs. Assuming the fabric is sound the next factor would be the current standard of insulation. The higher the insulation levels the lower the heating demand which translates to a lower flow temperature of water and in turn lower heating costs. With all this taken into consideration the heat pump should be cheaper than oil. I would be more than happy to examine your current consumption in greater detail and discuss this.

What about biogas from AD as an option to decarbonise some of the gas grid and avoid dependency on questionable regimes? This has certainly been looked at at a wider community level and recovering heat in this has potential. As ever much of the debate surrounds the upfront investment and design costs to establish viability. With current unit fuel cost pricing now being forensically examined a nuber of alternatives will be examined.

Is it better to add a solar diverter or a battery to a PV system to make best use of the electricity generated? This very much depends on how much energy generated is currently usefully consumed. The diverter has the attraction of relatively low cost and easy to install. If a considerable amount of generated energy is wasted or for those with larger solar systems the battery option can be an attractive proposition. It is worthwhile bearing in mind your current annual kWh electric consumption prior to making any decision. Happy to discuss on a 1:1 level and fine tune the detail.
