BrandHow to explore motion unique to your brand?
Motion is a fundamental skill. That being said there are some common buckets and outliers. Games, children's apps, fun playful branding vs something like banking where trust is a huge factor. You don't want playful with trust.

CareerWhere can you find jobs in UX that are more motion-centric? I'm in a tech heavy city (Austin) but jobs here seem to be either UX, UI, or a combination of the two with no real focus on animation.
Motion is typically an add on for UX. Some teams are employing motion designers managed by UX designers (google)
4
CareerCan you help me in career opportunities
If you have an awesome portfolio, I'll check it out and keep it on my list when I get pings for gigs and jobs
5
CareerWhere can we (UI animators) fit in a UX process from the beggining to the end? Sometimes I get confused because It seems that it is not a full time job and maybe it's more like an extra hard skill on my belt you know...
Yeah great question. It really depends on the team and culture. I personaly recommend a hustle mentality because that tends to be more resiliant careerwise. So you could come in for UX and end up doing some motion, or conversely apply for a motion UI job. The thing there is motion designers tend to get silo'd. My strategy section in the certification course deals with this. But basically the gist is that you need to make sure you're focusing on the value to the user, the product, and the business at all times.

Design systemsHow to add animations to a design system?
Lots of teams are doing it. Start with a basic taxonomy. You can reference Google Material Motion for a detailed taxonomy. Likely you want to begin with simple componants and timings. Timings should focus on 3 categories: small, medium and large traversing. This can be a presentation deck or whatever internal resource format works
7
Design systemsif a motion design system is possible, what kind of structure / elements and logic do you suggest?I'd start with easing and duration first, with rendered examples. I'd focus on 3 timing scenarios. This would include velocity curves and durations. These are basic requirements. At the highest level you have conceptual frameworks like material motion that uses the metaphor of paper and layering. You typically don't need to go that complex. I'd probably start with mood boards too and have a tightly curated library of examples. Designers like to think in terms of grandiouse metaphor but it can begin simple.
8
Design systemsHow to classify the animations... element behavior, component behavior... and lottie animation?
Componants, onboarding, loaders, pull to refresh, icon animations, transitions, gestures
9
Design systemsIs there any default or guidelines to choose for duration for animating between elements in the screen.
Google material motion is great starting point. I teach all this in Motion Standards in certificaiton course
10
HandoffFor the designers in the crowd, who are currently working on case studies and want to implement “live mockups”, what would you suggest in terms of working and exporting methods and tips?I don't do a ton of live mockups but people like ProtoPie, Framer, Principle
11
HandoffHow to document animations created by tools like Priniciple for engineering implementation?
It completely depends on your team. At one extreme you can handoff a Principle file. At the other extreme you have to redline. Check with the team before building anything.
12
Handoffhow to improve after effects data/assets hand off for the developers, maybe a motion design system could be useful?
This is a conversation with the engineering team. Help them help you. It could be any of that or none of that.
13
HandoffI'm experienced in 2D/3D animation. How do I best build pieces that speak to developers to help them understand what I bring to the table?
You have to speak to the value of motion to the user, the product and the business. I teach that in my workshop coming up.
14
HandoffHow to document the movement specifications
It depends. Could be prototype file, could be video file, could be redlines. Find out what works for your team. Don't assume anything
15
HandoffWhen working with engineers, what's the best way to hand off your designs so that they understand the motion/easing/etc? I've worked with engineers before but never on any projects that included motion.
There are 4 basic easing systems. I teach this in my motion standards module in ui animation in certification. Check with them first to make sure they're cool with it than use it.

InstallingHi Issara, I am not able to install Bodymovin' as AE plugin on my mac. I downloaded the zxp but the installer says it "cannot find a compatible program" which makes no sense since I have desktop versions of most Creative Cloud apps including AE, XD, etc. Do you have any suggestions on what I should do? AE is the latest version. Thank you.
That's a bummer. I'd update everything. AE, ZXP, and Bodymovin. Or just use the new LottieFiles plugin. It's awesome.

MiscDo you know if there is a Plug in or script that attempts to convert an After Effects composition into HTML/CSS3?, not interested in bodymoving or Lottie. Andreas Koller created this, will be super helpful if you know something similar easy to use. See example here: https://player.vimeo.com/video/287013761All I know is Inspector Spacetime. It's neither. But yeah this would be a game changer.
18
MiscWhat's the salary in your expectations after ux in motion course
6 figures
19
MiscCould you please build us an interaction library templates?
Oh gawd no. That's a nightmare.
20
Miscwill after effect ever develop an interactive part? I mean maybe plug in or integration tool for simulations, excluding XD. Is it expected that you know something on the horizon?
It's so hard to say. I would not count on it. I keep asking them. It's kind of a mess over there for these kinds of projects. Possibly something third party. The AE team seems to always be last to the party.
21
MiscI'm interested in more HUD type design and animation for gaming environments. Please give me some advice on how to carry my current skills into that space as well.
Cool! Yeah I'd need to see examples.

Motion background to UXI am coming from motion design, i know how to use After Affects but I don't have background in UI design, do I need to learn how to design UI (doing the Stills) first? If not, what are the websites to grab good UI file concepts that works in real life for my animations? You'll want to learn Sketch, Figma and XD. Just spend like half a day on each. They're easy to learn the basics. Watch a cheap top rated UX course. Don't spend a ton of money. The UX basics are easy to learn. Learn them so you can speak with UX designers or you will be forever silo'd and hating life. You shoudl be able to do all this in a week for less than $100. Do not spend more time or money.
23
Motion background to UXI'm a motion designer looking to make the jump to UI/UX animation. Would you recommend creating a portfolio or reel specifically for UI/UX animation?
Absolutely. If you don't have the design assets find talented designers on Dribbble/Behance and trade them source files for animations as a collaboration. You need really good looking assets. It's easy.
24
PortfolioHow to get fresher ui ux designer job in Google by using your ux in motionBuild a strong portfolio with good examples that showcase your ability to clearly define problems, limitations, solutions, a validation process, and results
25
PortfolioWhat types of motion projects do you suggest I include in my portfolio? What would you like to see if you were the hiring manager?
The visuals should look good. The motion should be clean and succint. Stay away from longer demos. Break everything down into short pieces. Focus on identiying the problem, the limitations, your hypothesis, your solutions, how you validated, and results. Rinse and repeat.
26
PortfolioCould you please show us how to build a catchy behance portfolio for a UI/UX Project?
You'll want to start with solid visuals first. Depends on your goal. Do you want fantasy pieces and social proof or do you want case studies for getting hired? Different routes. Speak to those.
27
Selling I heard that developers are going to hate our animations if we go too "creatives", is ir true?
Absolutely. You need to make a strong case for why this adds value. Help them help you.
28
Show them in AEHow can we decide how many frames or duration to choose for animating ui elements in UI Animation.
Motion standards. Show them.
29
StrategyWhenever I go across Dribbble to get some inspiration for my new projects, I see many designs which are complex and animated with loads of tricky animations and Micro-interactions. Many of these designs won't get to the development stage. So, is it good to design like that?
It all depends. Sometimes, absolutely, pie in the sky is what's needed. Other times, you need to focus on problem/limitation framework. You don't want to show your stakeholder stuff that is impossible for your platform unless the context is pie in the sky. Read the room. Always. You have to calibrate your work and strategy.
30
StrategyHow often do you see a need for AE to be used vs other prototyping tools that allow for interactivity?
Totaly depends on the project and team.
31
TestingWhat tool do you use to test the animations?
Anything. There is testing and there is validation. Some places have internal/external user testing. King. Etc.
32
TestingTestingSame
33
TestingWhen testing animations what should I focus on?
Depends on the project. Show white paper.
34
TestingTestingSame
35
TestingHow do you test motion transitions?
Internal small validation testings or external offical testings, or user testing
36
ToolsWhy would we choose After Effects for UI animation over advanced prototyping tools like Protopie / Framer or Invision Studio where we can interact with out mockups in real time?
Depends on the project. If you need to work without constraint, go with AE.
37
ToolsWhat is the advantage of working in after effects compared to other programs such as principle, XD, Figmotion figma plug in, etc
No constraints.
38
ToolsWhich are the industry most used softwares?
Right now Figma. For motion I'm not sure. AE is widely adopted. Protopie, Framer, XD, Principle. It's always changing.
39
ToolsWhat tools/plugins etc work best to go from After Effects to interactive prototypes to share?
Lottie and Figma plugin to place Lottie. It's tricky. I try to keep AE work and interactive work separate.
