7 | 2.4 School-Parent Compact As a component of the school-level parent and family engagement policy, each school served under this part shall jointly develop with parents for all children served under this part a school-parent compact that outlines how parents, the entire school staff, and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the state’s high standards. The school-parent compact shall carry out the following requirements: (20 U.S.C. § 6318[d]). a) Describe the school’s responsibility to provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the children served under Title I, Part A to meet the challenging state academic standards, as well as the ways in which each parent will be responsible for supporting their children’s learning; volunteering in their child’s classroom; and participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children and positive use of extracurricular time. 8 | Staff of Morse High School will... Provide daily standards-based instruction based on students’ needs. Provide small group instruction on a daily basis to meet individual needs of students. Provide special programs to meet individual needs (GATE, English Learner, Special Education, Speech/Language, and Response to Intervention, etc.). Provide extra support to struggling students such as tutoring, counseling groups; and after-school programs. Provide ongoing site and district staff development to increase teachers’ knowledge and use of effective instructional techniques and strategies. Provide regular and ongoing reviews of student academic data to monitor student progress. Provide teachers time to participate in grade level/content level teacher meetings to discuss and evaluate the effectiveness of instruction and to plan collaboratively. Provide effective high level curriculum and supportive classroom materials. Parents/Guardians of Morse High School students will… Ensure their child attends school daily and arrives on time, ready to learn. Monitor their child’s academic progress through PowerSchool/grade reports and maintain regular communication with teachers and school staff. Create and consistently use the Parent Portal (PowerSchool) to monitor their child’s academic progress, attendance, assignments, and school communications; complete online registration and annual updates; submit required forms and emergency information; complete LCFF data collection forms; and communicate with teachers and school staff in a timely manner to support their child’s academic success. Support learning at home by encouraging completion of homework, reading regularly, and discussing school expectations and goals. Establish routines that promote positive study habits, adequate rest, and responsible use of technology. Participate in parent-teacher conferences, workshops, Title I meetings, and school events when possible. Volunteer in classrooms, school activities, or school committees when available and feasible. Engage in shared decision-making opportunities related to their child’s education, including participation in School Site Council (SSC), ELAC, parent advisory groups, and other school committees as appropriate. Encourage positive use of extracurricular time by supporting involvement in clubs, athletics, arts, academic enrichment programs, and community service opportunities.
