Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes but it was a very small description and needed more because a lot happened that was not in the description Finishing our costumes and going to tea in them Having to stay after to actually get things done If we got to keep our costumes 543YesUse what you love to do for the greater good YesNothing
3
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes, but it was so much better than I imagined.I learned so much about so many things—budgeting, sewing, repurposing, character development, and teamwork.Probably that I feel like some people didn’t contribute as much as others, which was hard to see. It’s difficult to see people working so so hard on their costumes and the others just sitting there doing nothing. If some people actually cared and helped out as much as those who were really invested.544YesI learned that you can take something you’re passionate about and turn it into a way to help others.Yes
4
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesNo because I thought there would be more parking and it turned out there was a lot more sewingThe visit to the grand America The description was not acurate?444YesEhhh.YesNah fam
5
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes. We got to learn about how to make things and adapt them to our characters. Function over form was really helpful. We learned about how to use cosplay to help others in need. It was really fun and I loved cosplaying at winterfest. I got to talk to all these little girls and be in character the whole time.Seeing the final product and having a photoshoot at the grand America hotel. It was a little disappointing to not keep our costumes, but I'm ok with the fact that we can still check them out.Being able to have more discussions on the book.544YesYou can use your talents to help others and you can gain inspiration from anywhere (especially books)YesNone
6
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes, I was very excited to see the listing and was equally excited with the actual class. All of the techniques we learned and the finished product I was unaware that we didn't get to keep the costumes and when I heard about it I wasn't very happy More time to build.553YesThe costume pieces Yes
7
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)NoYesThe Tea PartyThe book choiceHaving more of my friends in it413NoMaking a dress was complicatedYes
8
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesIt was a lot harder than I thought it would be.I don't know.We didn't get to keep our costumes. If we had more time and could go to children's hospitals or something.555YesHow to use cosplay to help others.YesDance winterum
9
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes. In the winterim we sewed, shopped and had guest speakers. There were deadlines and a budget. It was just like I thought it would be.Sewing the pieces of the costume and then seeing it come together. The fact that we made the costume and played for it through the fees and were told that we would be able to keep it at the beginning. But at the end we had to give the costume to the school. If I could have kept the costume.454YesThat I can make cool things.YesHave something that is different and new, while still being relatively cheap ($100-200)
10
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)It was a lot more work than it let on, but it was incredibly well done. How much time we spent on all aspects.N/AA little more planning on my end, personally, maybe some personal sewing experience beforehand.554YesAll the skills learnedYes
11
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYeah. We made costumes and learned things about how to sew dresses or pants or corsets or even really simple things.I liked going to the back stage of evermore. It was cool to see how cosplay could be if I perused it as a job.Being stressed.A better book for the costumes to be based on. The book wasn't my favorite.443YesHow to be able to alter or fix clothes. I've already used some of the skills I've learned by fixing some of my clothes.Yes
12
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes, it said we would make costumes and talk about cosplay and that’s what we did! Being able to be creative but having lots of help and advice when needed. Also going to tea. Not enough time to perfect the outfitMore time 553YesCosplay can be used to help people. Also I know how to sew better. YesStar Wars again
13
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesEverything and more, though I wish that it had been specified that our costumes would be donated to the school at the end of the course. The skills that I learned-- teamwork, effective communication, tailoring, shopping on a budget, time management... It was awesome :)I really struggled with the stress of finishing the dress on time, trying to make sure that it was cohesive, well made, and fit the steampunk element that was necessary. And the noise. Our group was really chatty, which was wonderful that everyone was so friendly and comfortable with each other, but it was also really exhausting.534YesCosplay is more than just fun for yourself-- you can bring light and joy to the people around you, make connections with those who need friends..Yes
14
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYes. It said we were going to make outfits and learn how to cosplay and we did! The only thing I would change is a disclaimer that says we'll probably not get to use foam, plastic, etcetera. I wanted to learn that.We got to see each other's dresses being made and share ideas. Thinking creatively- in design. It was super stressful and it was a small amount of time. If we had had mini classes on things we would have definitely needed to do on the dress. If one person could teach another it turned out well but a lot of the time we were completely in the dark how to make fabric/costume do something.552YesYou can still make something good, even if it's not perfect. Our dress turned out beautiful but not everything went smoothly or the way we wanted. "Art is never finished, only abandoned."YesKeep nerd winterims around! I loved them this year and would like them to stay Maeser tradition (fantasy literature, cosplay, etcetera). Music winterims (as our program grows) would be fantastic.
15
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesNo it was betterEverything Not keeping the costumesBetter structure553YesTextilesYes
16
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesSort of. I don't quite remember the descriptionEverything! I learned so much! But learning to use a sewing machine was really cool! Some of the teams caused drama but that was inevitable. I genuinely can't think of anything554YesI couldn't put it into words. YesNot really
17
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesYup. With the exception of the trips to evermore and teaIt was all personal work and everything we made was uniquely ours. It wasn't cookie cutter nor did it force us all down the same pathIt was a three-week-long, five-hours-a-day group project, which can be draining.More time and help in the planning stages.544YesSewing skillsYesStorytelling through game mechanics
18
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesIt was more than I expected. I thought we were just going to make a piece or two for a costume, but we made an entire costume! The best thing was being able to take the idea for our costume, sketch it out, and see it become a reality. I often have ideas I want to make a reality, but don't often get to see it happen. This winterim really helped show me that I could make things I didn't think I could. The worst thing was probably not being able to keep the costume I spent weeks working on. If we could've had a bit more time and money, and also been able to keep the costume, that would've made the winterim perfect.432YesMy biggest takeaway was seeing how I could use cosplay to change other peoples lives. I can brighten a lot of days just by dressing up as someone that someone else enjoys. It has been really cool to see how many people enjoyed our costumes when they didn't know us or who we were, and that is what I like about cosplay so much, people just get a huge smile on their face when they see someone they think is actually the character.Yes
19
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)NoNo but it was better than I could imagineMaking the costumesNothing it was all greatIt was great the way it was554YesIf you are in the mindset of building what you want you can accomplish it if you try hard enoughYes
20
Cosplay Melee (Gerber/Smith)YesNo, I thought we were going to make our own costume.Seeing all the work everyone did. Some groups got into fights about things. If people could agree on things.454YesI now know how to make cool costumes and make people happy.Yes
