This information is for $21.95/hour; current highest paid is $24.81 (advanced/candidate); Information is for 2 semesters (9 month period) assuming full credit load. Fully-funded suggests 20 hours/week in which tuition waiver/reimbursement applies per semester. Department of Psychology and Department of Developmental Psychology average around $25-27 an hour.

University of North Carolina (Chapel Hill)

There may be student fees that they have to pay depending on funding agreement. Fringe is $10,815 for the year. | I am not sure where the 27k came from but for most students, the stipend is 21k without summer funding.

Health insurance fully covered. Yearly take home is around $21,000. Students have $500-$1,250 from the department for conferences.

University of Illinois Urbana Champaign

Up to advisor if covered over summer, could be a 9 month. If summer, 2 month coverage as assistantship and 1 month as hourly, includes full health care. Raise for PhD after canidancy exams passed. Included the fringe rate in the stipend, since there wasn't anywhere else to put it.

Stipend can vary - I reported 9 month GA + 3 month summer wages (equivalent take home but no tuition charged & lower fringe). Other costs are 10.4% fringe on 9-month stipend and 8% fringe on 3-month summer stipend.

In New Zealand, this is for a PhD scholarship which comes with no work committment beyond working on a PhD; usually awarded over three years FTE. $$ amounts are NZD

I don't know whether the department or university pays for tuition. Students receive 15% "bonus" for receiving external funding (NSF, NRSA) - 15% of the amount of the award receive. If award amount is less than stipend, the department covers the gap + provides the 15% bonus

BBSP program (Umbrella program for phd students in biomedical science)

The mentor pays $0 in year 1, in subsequent years there is a BBSP fee that must be paid, usually by center or department or deans office. it may go up to 38K next year, not sure. the column H value is the fringe for the position that covers benefits

Other costs = Benefits at 18.2% benefit rate. Not clear on direct costs to students.

Tuition is $64,000 but is waived with an assistantship- at the med school this is not charged to the PI

Benefits include subsidized healthcare, subsidized transit pass, sick and vacation time off. All years to degree are paid by faculty research activity, two quarters TAships, sometimes fellowship dollars instead of or in addition to regular stipend.

Psychology (costs consistent across programs)

All costs are fully covered for all students throughvarious mechnisms (students have to TA for 3 years, no cost to PIs). "Other costs" cover healthcare and dental. Tuition is out-of state (in-state is half this cost) and decreases significantly going from Years 1 & 2 to post-candidacy (~$7k). These numbers reflect fall 2024 starting students.

Molecular Biosciences (Umbrella program across depts)

Numbers are for a second year student. Their first year is covered by the university, and later year tuition is slightly cheaper. Insurance covered by fringe.

Stipends are paid at 33%, 44%, or 50% of full-time. Earning a masters results in a slight pay bump. August and May paychecks are prorated rates. Summer TAships are not guarunteed, and if acquired, are paid less per month than Spring/Fall and students are required to register and pay fees. Travel funding is not provided by department.

Cost vary across students as MS and PhD students attend the same courses. Most students get scholarships to cover left over fees for courses, but it is not gauranteed. PhD students get funded for 2 conferences $2,000 each conference and one workshop up to $2,000. MS students get one conference up to $2,000. Health insurance and dental is not included. Stipend is obtained through a TA assistanceship unless advisor has funding for RA. International students are required to purchase health insurance through the university which is $3,000 per semester
