A Da Vinci Paints' product code that is given to each color for production and inventory reference.

Color Name
The Da Vinci Paints' name of a particular color. Color names are not necessarily consistent among product lines, brands, and pigments.

Series
A number that indicates the list price of the color which is determined by the cost of the color's pigment(s). There are 5 price series in each product line beginning with the least expensive, Series 1. The Da Vinci Paints' series number do not reflect quality. All Da Vinci Paints' colors and materials are manufactured to the highest professional-grade quality.

Lightfastness
Lightfast refers to a pigment's resistance to change when exposed to light and atmosphere. In this system, a rating of I is the highest lightfastness available and V is the lowest. All Da Vinci Paints' colors have a lightfast rating of either excellent (I) or very good (II) with the exception of Opus (Vivid Pink) which is not rated (NR). Lightfast ratings of I or II are considered stable and permanent for artists' use.

Color Index
This column provides the pigment index color(s) and number(s) used in each Da Vinci Paints' color. Color Index refers to a family of pigments which share similar characteristics. Each family or index of colors can contain a variety of hues. For example, Pigment Brown 7 in Burnt Sienna is different from the Pigment Brown 7 used to create Burnt Umber. The pigment abbreviations are as follows.
PB: Pigment Blue
PBk: Pigment Black
PBr: Pigment Brown
PG: Pigment Green
PO: Pigment Orange
PR: Pigment Red
PV: Pigment Violet
PW: Pigment White
PY: Pigment Yellow

Common Name
The common or chemical name of the pigments that are in each color.

Transparency
A general guide to how a particular color appears in masstone. Transparancy or opacity is highly relative and subject to various conditions; e.g. a thinned or diluted layer of color will naturally be more transparent than a thicker one.

Staining
Refers to colors that have a tendency to ‘stain' or can't be completely lifted, at least not easily, from a page. Liftability is subject to varibles such as humidity level, paper sizing, and more.

Granulation
Refers to colors that 'granulate' or contain pigments that will separate on a page; a technique that is only applicable in watercolor. Colors that have slight or some granulation are labeled G1; colors that granulate well are labeled G2. Perceivable levels of granulation are subject to certain conditions like paper texture, dilution, and more.

Toxic
Not all colors require warnings, but Da Vinci Paints provides warnings when necessary in accordance with certain laws and to keep you informed. For more information, visit www.P65Warnings.ca.gov.
