David Evans
ESAOPS-SAT-1: How the in-flight implementation of powerful on-board communication protocols completely changed the operations
Bio: David Evans started his career at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC) in 1992, working as a Spacecraft Control Engineer and then Simulation Officer on the EURECA, ERS-2 and CLUSTER-1 missions. In 1997, he joined EUTELSAT, managing the satellite control centre during a period of significant change including the privatisation of the company in 2001 and a rapid expansion of the fleet (20 launches). In 2007, he returned to ESOC, initiating ESA’s first nanosatellite mission, OPS-SAT, launched in 2019. He is now the manager of ESA’s OPS-SAT Space Lab and the holder of several patents on housekeeping telemetry compression. He is also the author of the popular “Ladybird Guide to Spacecraft Operations” lecture courses.

He is an active contributor to the IPNSIG Pilot Working Group and its DTN Network.

DTN: Towards NASA’s Near Space Network
Bio: Alan has been on the DTN team since 2009, and has dedicated much of his energy to growing both NASA’s practical and theoretical DTN competencies. He stood up a modern, performance-optimized DTN implementation team at NASA Glenn, where he also founded a fundamental research group. Having joined the Near Space Network group at NASA Goddard, Alan is redirecting his focus to infusion paths for DTN – with DTN as a service as a goal - while maintaining research and student outreach.

Bio: Carlo Caini is with the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering "Guglielmo Marconi" (DEI), of the University of Bologna, as Associate Professor of Telecommunications. His scientific interests are in the field of the DTN architecture, mainly when applied to space environments. They include the study of the Bundle Protocol (BP), of LTP, of DTN routing algorithms (CGR/SABR), as well as the design of free software tools for DTN environments.

Bio: Olivier Alphand received the Ph.D. degree from the Institut National Polytechnique de Toulouse, Toulouse, France, in 2005. He is involved in several national and European projects. He has authored or co-authored several papers ranging from admission control and signaling in satellite networks to medium access control and routing protocols in sensor networks. His current research interest is focused on LPWAN random access methods and more recently on the use of LoRa technology in new space. - Didier Donsez is full professor in Computer Sciences at Université Grenoble Alpes (Grenoble, France) since 2007. He was assistant professor in Computer Sciences at Université de Valenciennes (France) from 1996 to 2001 and at Université Joseph Fourier (Grenoble, France) from 2001 to 2007. He earned a doctorate (Ph.D) in Computer Sciences (1994) at University of Paris VI: Pierre et Marie Curie and a HDR in Computer Sciences (2006) at Université Joseph Fourier. His research labs is the LIG (Laboratoire d'Informatique de Grenoble) [https://www.liglab.fr], ERODS team [http://erods.liglab.fr]. He teaches in the Computer Sciences departement at Polytech Grenoble (engineering school). His research area is middlewares and software engineering for the internet of things (IoT) since 20 years. His current topics are LPGAN, SatIoT and Artificial Intelligence at Extreme Edge. He is the principal investigator of the Thingsat project, an in-orbit research vehicle for benchmarking LoRa© modulation in SatIoT applications.

Bio: Gunes Karabulut Kurt received the B.S. degree with high honors in electronics and electrical engineering from the Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, in 2000 and the M.A.Sc. and the Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Ottawa, ON, Canada, in 2002 and 2006, respectively. She is currently an Associate Professor of Electrical Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal, Montréal, QC, Canada. She is currently serving as an associate technical editor of the IEEE Communications Magazine, an associate editor of IEEE Communication Letters, an associate editor of IEEE Wireless Communications Letters, and an area editor of IEEE Transactions on Machine Learning in Communications and Networking.

She currently works on High-rate Delay Tolerant Networking implementation with focus on routing and security. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Engineering and Computer Science from Mines ParisTech, France.

DTN Developments and Projects in the IPNSIG Projects Working Group
Bio: Oscar Garcia presented the first Medical Record System for Space Exploration during STINT 2020. He has received the Award of the World Summit on the Information Society in Digital Health for Argentina in 2005. Mr. Garcia has been in computer programming and information systems technologies since 1983. He was the local host of ICANN in Mar del Plata, Argentina. He has been lecturer for public and privates institutions over the years and was appointed to participate in State Missions of Argentina for Information Technology. Mr. Garcia is member of the Board of IPNSIG where he chairs the Pilot Project Working Group. He is also chairman in Sister Cities Mar del Plata and has been a Karate teacher for 25 years. Mr. Garcia has Argentine and Spanish citizenships adding to the global scope of IPNSIG

A Generic Bundle Forwarding Interface
Bio: Felix Walter is CTO of D3TN GmbH. He received a doctorate degree in the area of DTN routing in 2020 and holds a Diploma degree in information systems engineering. Since 2014, he has contributed to the development of open-source DTN protocol stacks and evaluation toolchains. In that context, he engaged in several field tests of DTN protocols, focusing on their deployment in challenging environments.
