Can anyone give me some recommendations or information on adopting a dog in the hampton roads area?

My GF and I have been around these types of dogs all our lives, I had a German Shepherd/Lab mix and she had two pitbulls plus we&#39;ve both known lots of other similar dogs, so this is what we are set on. I know there are a few breed specific rescues like GSRA but they&#39;re all a bit far, so we&#39;re hoping we can find something closer. I'd like to move to Ghent and I'm looking for a roommate in late August.

My lease here wraps up 8/31 so I&#39;m looking to start a new lease around that time. Ghent looks awesome, but rent-wise it would be a lot more feasible if I have at least one roommate.</p> <p>I&#39;m 27/M, willing to live with either M/F, and I have a 65 pound Plott Hound/Lab. She&#39;s very well trained/house broken and friendly with people. Dogs can be hit or miss though. Generally, if the other dog is submissive she is fine but if the other dog is dominant Ruca gets dominant also. I&#39;m allergic to cats.</p> <p>I&#39;m easy going and very clean. I have a steady job and fantastic credit. I can comfortably cover up to $800 for my half of the rent. I am currently living in a 2 bedroom (rent is cheap in Hampton) so I have a lot of furniture for furnishing a place. I&#39;m not a huge partier but I do drink and go out occasionally. Hobby-wise I&#39;m into lifting, triathlons, mountain biking, backpacking, shooting pool, reading, frisbee with the pup, and binge watching TV shows after the gym. Most of my friends have long since moved out of the area or they have/are having kids.</p> <p>Before anyone chimes in with the &quot;try going out and talking to people,&quot; I&#39;m asking specifically about open groups that meet weekly/monthly as an avenue to make new friends with common interests.
