Extra Comments 8417 and 8417-1
Unfortunately you were eliminated from the Intro C class due to turning the wrong way at the beginning and not correcting it, as well as doing movements out of order the other direction. It’s really important to have your tests correctly memorized! We all go off course occasionally but it can be a little disconcerting when it happens, so best to try to avoid it. Reading your tests is no problem (unless you are at a Championship where readers are not allowed).
So a few things to improve from both tests: consider slowing your tempo a bit. Energetic is good but your pony is little too quick. I think a slower tempo will encourage more relaxation and acceptance of the aids. We need to see clearer flexion towards the inside of the figures and turns, with more bend through the pony’s body. When they go too fast, they tend to be very stiff in the body and not show enough bend. Practice doing circles and varying your speed while maintaining a rounder topline. Use your elbows to ask for half halts and shape the neck rounder. Inside leg pushes the ribs to the outside. Once you can find this roundness and suppleness, increase your speed on the circles; go faster and slower (we call this forward and back) while staying bent and supple. I think you will find your pony has better quality gaits with more swing and freedom in the shoulders when more relaxed and a bit slower.
Do a little more preparation for your transitions and figures. Use half halts, leg pressure, and energy from your seat to let him know you’re getting ready to ask for something different and give him a moment to prepare.
I believe you have a great future in dressage with increased suppleness and relaxation. Good luck as your progress!
