This game has 10/10 presentation, and 5/10 gameplay. Good lord, the visuals, aesthetic, and sound design are fantastic. I loved the often-diagetic camera, and the art design was fantastic, especially in the underworld stages. The combat, however, is middling at best. The animation work is weightless, and I never felt like I was able to reach a flow state where it felt good. One enemy type doesn't stagger when hit, and was especially frustrating to fight. This game is definitely worth the few hours it lasts, just don't play on the higher difficulties, the combat isn't compelling enough for that.

Dude, what the heck even is this game? It has the wildest vibe of anything I've played in recent memory. It absolutely oozes charm, but in an unsettling kind of way. The gameplay is pretty fun, but the sidequests have you repeatedly capturing a lot of the same Snax, which started to wear thin, and I eventually abandoned my completionist instinct. The story is pretty simple, but the voice cast puts in a ton of work, and managed to get me invested. Also, the final act goes absolutely wild, which entertained me quite a bit.

What a cozy game, I loved how the power curve was super-condensed. It was very satisfying, and the game world was packed with goodies to find and discover. I really enjoyed roaming around, since there was such a dense amount of stuff to discover. The soundtrack made me think of the Calm Lands from FFX.

This game absolutely nailed the feeling of meta-exploration, in a way I'm not sure I'd felt since playing Fez way back in the way. The in-universe instruction book was an absolutely brilliant device, and must have gone through TONS of rounds of revision to arrive in such a nice place. The combat and puzzles both managed to be a good level of challenge, and some of the boss fights were thrilling.

Damn, I love me some Kirby. They really nailed the transition to full 3D. I would have liked to have a few more copy powers, I missed Beam and UFO particulary, but upgrading the abilities was really satisfying, and there was some really fun stuff in there. Everything about this game was just so joyful, it put a smile on my face the whole way through, and managed to culminate in the existential horror that I would expect from the franchise.

This game is equal parts amazing and frustrating. The open world is very strongly designed, and I got a lot of joy from finding different areas and secrets. Unfortunately, there's also a lot of content that ends up reused over and over and over., and such a breadth of build options that many dungeon rewards will be useless to your particular character. The first time I fought a Crucible Knight was thrilling, the fifth time a bit less so. Impressively, I didn't start to feel fatigued until I was already 70 hours into the game, which speaks to the strength of the game overall. I don't think the bosses reached the same heights as Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, or Sekiro, but the sheer amount of content here is impressive, and most of it is really good.
Looking forward to the inevitable DLC, I think it has the potential to be phenominal.

What an intriguing game, I deeply enjoyed fleshing out my knowledge going through the timeloop. The characters were pretty interesting, and felt understandable. The aesthetic was nice, and the layered civilizations were super interesting. The worst part about this game was the loading times, good lord they were gnarly. It felt bad to make incorrect choices or die when I knew the load times were a couple minutes long.

Super satisfying little adventure game, and the music was fantastic. The atmosphere was great in this one, each environment felt distinct and memorable. Further proof that every game is better with a hookshot. The exploration was nice, and the boss fights were very satisfying - I think the devs were able to use their experience with Titan Souls to create some tight, satisfying boss fights. The true ending was a bit underwhelming, I wish there was an extra boss fight instead of just a cliffhanger and lore hook.

I have to get this out of the way first. I HATE BLOOD VIALS. Making the main healing item in the game a limited consumable is so frustrating to me. Good players will never run out, and players that are struggling will find themselves running dry and have to go farm up more. I don't think they add anything positive to the game, I wish they worked like elixirs in Nioh, where you're always guaranteed a minimum amount, and can hold extra if you have them in your inventory.
With that being said, everything else in the game is pretty fucking fantastic. The world design is dense and intricately woven together, the boss fights are fast-paced and frantic, and largely great (when the camera behaves). The limited build variety really let them focus in on creating hyperaggressive fast-paced combat, which was great fun to learn and master.

This game was a good way to spend an evening, they really nailed the sound design and feeling of power. This was a really solid mystery game. I liked how the different routes were set up so that you learned different things, even when it was conflicting information. It made it hard to figure things out too early, but it was a fun guessing game coming up with theories since everyone seemed suspicious at some point or another, and I think the finale came together satisfyingly, while not overexplaining things. The gameplay sections weren't spectacular, but they didn't detract from the experience too much. I'd like to see another game in this universe at some point, honestly.

I think that Sekiro is a great evolution of the Dark Souls formula. Dark Souls have always had a very reactive playstyle, where you wait for an opening and get in a hit or two. This game was very proactive and encouraged aggression, and I felt like I was able to set the pace of fights with my abilities. There were a few boss fights where they fell back into soulslike design, and those were my least favorite bosses in the game.

I'm a sucker for a good JRPG and this game didn't disappoint. I'd only played Persona 2 before this one, and I really enjoyed the school life segments. I thought the dungeons were a bit lifeless, due to being randomly generated, but combat was really fun. The character writing is the strongest thing here for sure, it really felt like a group of friends coming together, and who doesn't like watching teenagers power up and kill a god?

This was a very simple game, it did some good things but had some huge missteps that really hampered my enjoyment. The enviromnents were really pretty, and the particle effects of the petals and little motes of light were very nice. The music provided some good ambience. The game also had a decent "power curve" in the last couple levels, it was very fun to turn into a ball of light and destroy the evil girder-rebar-things. Onto the negatives, this game had a HUGE issue with stealing camera control from me. So many times in every level, the game steals the camera to show something opening up or appearing. Not only is it infuriating to have the camera ripped away, it totally broke any sense of exploration I had since I knew that anything new would be accompanied by a pseudo-cutscene. Second (and this may be because the game was originally designed for motion controls), the game liked to make you go FAST AS HELL, and became extremely hard to control at such high speeds. It was hard to relax and enjoy the scenery when I was constantly fighting the camera and controls.

Another game added to the "Stages of grief" pile, baby!
This game was so pretty, every section was so screenshottable and a joy to look around. The sand and cloth physics both looked really nice, and the color palette was very nice. I honestly didn't know this was a "co-op" game, so it was a very pleasant surprise to meet some friends on the way up the mountain. Austin Wintory's music was great and added a lot of feeling to each level. I didn't think that "Hold Forward and Press A: The Game: would have any stressful moments, but the final snowstorm section made me pretty anxious, so they did a bang-up job in that regard.

I think this is a weaker RPG than Stick of Truth, but it is a much better South Park episode. The jokes were hilarious, and the plot felt like it was able to stand on its own, instead of being a string of callbacks. The combat was servicable, but I didn't like how moving around the battlefield worked. Most battlefields ended up feeling pretty cramped, and movement speeds were low enough that it felt very hard to position properly.

This game was so bleak and honestly pretty difficult to get through at some points, but they did some astoundingly cool stuff with binaural audio. I think they did a pretty tasteful job handling Senua's mental illness, and making it a central part of the game. The combat was really simple, but it was honestly pretty satisfying. I'm very interested to see where they will go with the sequel, there's a lot of potential directions it could go.

This game had some great atmosphere, and I was constantly on edge while being chased by Mr. X, the sewer level especially was nerve-wracking. I wish there were some more distinct differences between the two playthroughs, and once again the boss fights were horrendous, but overall this was pretty damn fun.

I enjoyed the journey in this game a lot more than the destination. The final act kind of petered out and the reveal wasn't worth it - also I was bummed that only one route tied back to Virtue's Last Reward. But I think the escape rooms themselves were really strong, and the character writing was compelling. It was obvious that this game hardly had any budget, but they did a pretty good job with what they had.

Fucking fantastic game, the controls were so tight and they were able to build on different concepts in each level and really test my mastery of them. The C-sides and chapter 9 were some of the tightest-designed challenges in recent memory, and the soundtrack was fabulous.

This game is absolutely fantastic, but let me start out by mentioning one thing it does poorly. The game's tutorials are BAD, and a lot of mechanics were explained to me by chat since the game taught them poorly or not at all. Other than that gripe, the game is fantastic. The music is fun, the artstyle is clean, and the controls work pretty well. The progression of scale throughout the game is impeccable. Bosses in the first level return later as a tiny non-obstacles, and that is immensely satisfying. The character writing is great, and they come together to have a very entertaining dynamic. The final act is pure joy, and takes on a ton of anime tropes. I really loved this game overall, and I'm super happy that it gets a second chance through crowdfunding.

I'm still amazed how well this series does with having totally wacky side content all over the place, and a super-serious crime drama main story, and they both work really well. The only problem I had is that by the halfway point of the game, I'm so invested in the main story that I start to ignore the side content! This game is so good, though. Kamurocho feels so dense and alive, and many parts of the game are hilarious. Playing on hard is pretty fun, though the trash fights are SUPER easy, and some of the bosses are SUPER tough. But damn it feels good to progress.
Bakamitai is still my favorite karaoke song, it's so shmaltzy.

This was a pretty cute little game. The controls felt really tight, and it was satisfying to jump around the levels and progress. The boss battles were reasonably challenging, but felt very intuitive mechanically. Storyline was light, but it was pretty solid for what it was.

The most charming game I've played recently, almost everything in here put a smile on my face. The level design was clever ,and I really enjoyed all the different floors' themes, though I did feel some of them were too short. The pacing did feel good, however - and it was always a delight to just run around and suck things up with the Poltergust. The visuals and sound were great, and really sold the light-hearted-and-mildly-creepy mood. Luigi's mannerisms were hilarious, and he was delightful the whole way through. Also, the final boss was awesome, the final phase was definitely a memorable moment. The only major thing I disliked was the damn cat showing up to steal elevator buttons. I think it hurt the pacing, and felt like padding the playtime without adding anything new mechanically.

What a wild, wild ride. At over twice the length of 999, I was worried that the game would feel stretched out, and fall apart under its own weight. Thankfully, I was incorrect. Most every timeline had some new revelation or raised another handful of questions that kept the game intriguing for the full length. Each character was compelling, and even the characters I didn't like felt like they belonged there. The escape rooms were pretty solid, though a few of the "Secret File" solutions felt really contrived. The story came together in a very satisfying way, and a few of the plot twists genuinely got me good. Looking forward to seeing what happens in the final game!

Man, this game was beautiful, and fixed so many of the small issues I had with the first game. They lifted a few gameplay systems straight out of Hollow Knight, but made sure that they worked will in the context of this game. The combat was more engaging than Blind Forest's, and there were a multitude of skills and actions available. Platforming was still a huge highlight. The movement felt smooth and amazing, and the different abilities could be used in all kinds of fun ways. There were many collectibles that I grabbed that I think I got in unintended ways, but the game allowed for that kind of thing and it was awesome. Will of the Wisps has a surprisingly good story, even though it is conveyed in a simple way. It was able to elicit some emotion out of me for sure.

This game had some absolutely fabulous atmosphere. Each section had a distinct mood, and they all managed to be scary, or creepy, or unnerving, or disturbing in very distinct ways. The actual gameplay was pretty simple, with simple platforming and a couple puzzles, but it felt responsive and the puzzles made logical sense - I never felt like I was trying out things randomly. Monster design was pretty solid, and got some good reactions out of me. The story was pushed to the background and seemed pretty simple, but it was enough to push me through the different sections of the game and be eager to see what awaited me in the next room.

Damn, this game was hilarious. I've watched quite a bit of South Park, so I had some ideas of what to expect. That being said, Stick of Truth still managed to surprise me with just how fucking crazy it got. The game was hilarious, of course. The soundtrack was sparse but fit the mood and setting quite well, and the combat system managed to keep me engaged, though it was probably a bit too easy to abuse powerful combos and cruise through everything pretty cleanly.

I'm not entirely sure what to say about this one. I think it had the best cast of characters in the series, and the setting was cool, and the cases were interesting, and the soundtrack was (as always) full of great tunes. I really enjoyed the majority of this game - but the ending left such a sour taste in my mouth that I can't help but feel that it made me like the entire series a bit less. I know it's hugely controversial, and there are people that defend it and people that hated it even more than I did. I felt like it undermined the themes of the series, and misinterpreted why the fans enjoyed it (or at least, why -I- enjoyed it).

A fairly enjoyable, reasonably scary game. The art wasn't anything astounding, but the scenario design and sound design were pretty solid and led to some scary moments. I was pleased that it didn't rely heavily on jumpscares (there were a few) and instead relied on the atmosphere to create tension. The plot was servicable, and it didn't get in the way of itself. I wasn't a huge fan of the true ending, it felt like a bit of a slap in the face after all the ordeals of the game, but it's a fairly common twist for the horror genre, so I can't get too bent out of shape about it.

Absolute banger of a soundtrack in here, and the character designs were fire. Most of the bosses were pretty compelling, and mixed up mechanics in interesting ways. There were a couple that I thought were lackluster but overall very strong throughout. The melee mechanics were much more enjoyable to me than the bullet hell sections, but most fights didn't lean too heavily on the bullet hell sections so it wasn't much of an annoyance. Difficulty curve was pretty solid, and it was very satisfying to learn the patterns of each fight and progress. The game should have ended one boss earlier, it had a 10/10 ending if it knew when to stop.

First of all, I'm really impressed how gorgeous this game is 14 years after release - the art style does some serious work. I quite liked the game overall, even though for a while I felt like it was dragging on. Once the credits rolled, I realized that the emotional pay-off at the end of the story wouldn't have been as good if the game was 5-10 hours shorter. The power curve was pretty satisfying, and the new powers were fun even if some of them were very situational and didn't see much use. The Celestial Brush mechanic worked pretty well, but sometimes it was inconsistent and I could feel it was made for Wii remotes. The game was probably too easy, seeing as normal encounters were entirely trivial and I didn't even come close to a single game over in my entire playthrough.

This game was paced exceptionally well - every time I started to get a good grasp of one type of puzzle, the game mixed it up with a new puzzle type, or threw on a new wrinkle to something I already knew. It didn't overstay its welcome either, at just a couple hours long. I thought the voice acting was better than I would have expected from this game, but I was really bummed out that there was no subtitle options. Non-voice audio was passable, but the puzzle design and pacing is certainly the memorable point of this one.

I quite liked the game, the meta elements were fairly inventive, and utilized in clever ways. The character work was pretty solid, though it made me feel a bit silly to read the character lines when they were talking to me. Visuals were pretty solid for this type of game, and the soundtrack had a couple good tracks, but was mostly unremarkable.
