I just wanted to begin by saying how grateful I am that we were able to have such a prestigious visitor come to our school. In particular, I really enjoyed your segment about further education in STEM and I learned some very useful things that I had not yet considered. I also really appreciated the resources you provided to help us 'do our homework' -- it is fairly hard to find this kind of information through a school that is admittedly not as focused in the sciences. Again, I am very grateful that you were able to come and speak to us because there are too many young girls who don't even consider doing STEM subjects nowadays. I hope that the other girls were just inspired by you as I was."Cobham, UK

17/10/2023Wonders of the UniverseBrad GibsonThoresby Primary School (Yr 5)1 hour8744F/43M: "Your outreach visit to Thoresby, as always, has been inspirational. A visit from you definitely sparks the children's curiosity and interest in the topic of space. They were as eager as ever to ask more questions once your delivery was finished and further their own learning. Visits from you also spark career conversations and how to 'get a job like Brad's'. They come away with so many interesting facts that stick in their memories. It was also lovely to see the old year 5s remembering you and your visit and some of the facts you taught them. The children were most enthused about the 'tardigrades'.

Children's comments -
That was so cool!
The smelliest thing in space is like my brother's fart.
Our screams don't even compare to the loudest thing in space.
Brad made those facts easy to understand."

12/09/2023Wonders of the UniverseBrad GibsonMountbatten Primary (Yr 5)1 hour3020F/10M: "Brad Gibson visited Mountbatten Primary School this week and was a fantastic guest to have at the school. My year 5 class was lucky to experience the “10 coolest things in space” presentation, which has certainly sparked their interest in their current Earth and space topic. Whilst presenting, I found that Brad was excellent with the children and made his presentation accessible to the class by putting facts or numbers in real terms that they would be able to understand. Furthermore, Brad would also answer the questions the children had with enthusiasm and detail. As well as trying to answer as much as he could within the time he had. The content of the presentation was incredibly interesting, which was clear by the number of gasps of shock and awe (as well as laughs) from the children. They all thoroughly enjoyed learning more about the wider universe, which is far beyond by subject knowledge and the curriculum. Where else would they find out amazing facts about diamond moons and fart clouds? It was certainly enriching for them and brilliant opportunity. One child asked me, “Is he coming in next week to do science with us?” which I think summed up their enjoyment of the session."Hull, UK

03/08/2023Are We Alone in the Universe?Brad GibsonHullEast Into University Centre (Holiday FOCUS: Yrs 5-9)1 hour1811F/7M: "Once again, thank you so much for giving an hour of your time, expertise and enthusiasm to the young people who visited with IntoUniversity today. The session was absolutely fascinating and even sparked something of an existential debate amongst the SAs after you departed! We all agreed that it made us and our respective worries feel very, very small - in a good way. I know that academics are juggling a great many responsibilities, and it's therefore understandable that being roped into doing outreach work (particularly with primary aged children) is the last thing you might have time to do. So, it's a really special quality to be willing to 'give' in the way that you did today, and I just wanted you to know how much we all appreciated it. How many children from East Hull will go back to school in September and be able to say that they've held a piece of the moon in their hands? I can now name 10 who can!"Hull, UK

22/07/2023Sea & SpaceBrad Gibson, David Benoit, Daniel Whitt6 week exhibit in partnership with The Deep43 days8570743354F/43353M: "General feedback from the Guides was that visitors really enjoyed the event. The games that the Guides made included hook-a-planet, which involved visitors hooking inflatable planets in the order that they would appear in our solar system. Others were snakes and ladders recreated in a Sea & Space theme, as well as popular activities such as face painting and badge making too. These all went down really well. The guide-led presentation was brilliant, and even a school inspector that came to visit said it matched the Year 8’s curriculum perfectly with the science knowledge! Overall, visitor numbers were very strong, particularly in the earlier weeks of summer. The total from 22nd July-3rd September was 85,707 people. I have received lovely feedback directly from Chris, who was our Duty Manager on the Crew Evening, and on the general visitor evening too, as well as the accessible morning sessions we ran at the beginning of August. The nights were very good and also quite easy to manage and organise. The team are ace, a lovely bunch who are organised and follow instruction, they were a pleasure to work with and would be very happy to work with them again at any point. Feedback was very strong for the the hands-on elements that you brought with you in the evening; they all loved engaging with this extra element!"Hull, UK

We love bringing the children on campus to learn and your sessions are always so interesting and such a huge hit! Our ACCESS funded programme is so important, but we often find it hard to get Academic staff involved so we thank you for always trying to provide a session. The way you can bring learning to life and create an enthusiasm for science with your child-friendly examples helps the children to understand so much more and they find your passion for your subject so engaging..
