These materials are expensive and I appreciate that you may not want to invest so much without knowing if you will continue to use them after the workshops. If this is a problem for you let me know and I will try to reduce the outlay by a combination of small sized canvases, any existing materials you have and using some of my stock

Day 1

Images to work fromYou will need some source images to stimulate your imagination. The oil pastel techniques are very loose and inaccurate. Difficult subjects are people and water, good subjects are flowers and landscapes. Images on a phone or tablet are OK and I have many available on paper

SketchbookThis is for drawing thumbnails. Any smooth sheets will do

PenAn Artline 200 fine 0.4 pen is idea as you can smudge it

One sheet of Arches smooth 185 gms watercolour paper or equivalentThis is a large sheet and you could work on a half sheet but I prefer to work large

2B pencil and a rubber

Reed penWe can supply or show you how to make one

Indian inkYou can use ours if you don't want to buy a bottle

Set of oil pastelsAny good quality pastel set

Pigmented ink violetI use Art Spectrum and a 50ml bottle will be enough.

Palette knifeYou can use ours

Optional spray varnishThis is not essential and depends on the painting but it will bring out the colours
