3 | Cloudtripping | djVERTICAI | This one feels like it takes me on a journey, with these VanEden tier melodies and the right chords to go with them and all. Love it. Those rhythms around after the 2 minute marks are a big fat YES. Also interesting how you took so many different timbres and made them all work together. Overall very refreshing to listen to. Also that ending is so satisfying. | YES | 1 point (would be 9/10 with qualifier voting system) | [Damn, I kinda wish you got to this! It is what it is though.] | [14] Only three extremely minor issues I can think of that are just barely enough to not make this straight up perfection: -there was one 8th note stream that I felt dragged on a bit too long. Kinda reminded me of Dawnbreaker from CoLE, but shorter and (fortunately) spicier in terms of patterning. Helps that this is in the context of a 4:05 song with a lot else going on, as opposed to a 2:26 song with not that much else going on. -first half or so felt just a tiny bit left-facing? -The triplet gallops in the middle, I get a sense of what it wa going to, but Idk if I would step it like that. Still IRP approving this though. Now for the positives, which clearly outweigh the negatives. Gimmicks used quite well. Patterning was great. I especially liked the ending, that was interesting for sure. | [11] Pretty front facing, especially in the first half. Which I suppose it's fine considering it's an 11 and there is a 14 for when I feel like playing something spicier. That aside, this was good! Honestly making a 4-minute long level 11 chart that doesn't completely bore me is an impressive feat of its own, so props. | [TOO EASY CHART GO BRRRRR] | [Rub-a_Dub-a_but_in_a_minor_key.ogg] |
4 | High Barrage | SM-MEGAtive | IIDX. Sound. Team. "SM-MEGAtive" Very bouncy, that combination of bassline and kick drum. The two big buildups in the second half are just awesome. | YES | 1 point (would be 9/10 with qualifier voting system) | [16] Feels undercharted in a bunch of places but not enough to really ruin it for me, for most of it feels like it makes sense. That said, this could have easily been an easy 17. Patterning very good though. Side note afte playing ESP 12: not really sure m36-44 needed to be the exact same rhythms as ESP but spicier patterning; that section could have used some of the 16ths that I hear in the song. | [12] You know how the general rule is to wait 4-8 bars before having the chart start? Here I would agree with the "-8" part. 12 bars is quite a lot of waiting for something to happen. Anyways, nice old school vibes here. I think there were buildups in the song that you could have afforded to understep a little less. For example, m52-55 and especially 56-57 I would've stepped *gasp* a continuous 8th stream. Yeah, that's right, I actually asked for a stream section. How SACRELIGIOUS of me lmao. | [DOES NOT EXIST] | [DOES NOT EXIST] | [Rub-a_Dub-a_but_in_a_minor_key.ogg] |
5 | Hungry Inquiry (Djeetyet) | DJ Excuses (aka Telperion) | Funky and quirky in a good way. The list of ingredients was also cool lol. Chords sound quite jazzy and I love it. Whatever happened at 1:46 is bound to be IRP approved. | YES | 0 points (would be 8/10 with qualifier voting system) | [DOES NOT EXIST] | [13] Old school chart except for the skittles and 24th bursts. Now this is reminding me of the kind of homorous song I might find in an ITG tech pack for some reason. Nothing glaringly wrong patterns wise also. Only criticism I even have it, I feel like it could have used some more spice. Maybe add this to the shopping list: https://heatonist.com/products/the-last-dab-apollo?variant=31838990499938 | [11] Somehow I found this more rhythmically interesting than ESP, despite the fact that it's...an 11 for a song that, as I saw, was clearly worthy of a 13. Patterning was also quite nice. I liked this And speaking of 11s, this is quite a hard 11. Not necessarily in 12 territory but getting there methinks. | [TOO EASY CHART GO BRRRRR] | [Rub-a_Dub-a_but_in_a_minor_key.ogg] |
6 | Operation: ELEMENT WONDER | VanEden | VanEden_banger_melodies.txt ...okay so it doesn't actually exist (yet), but hopefully I got the point across. Anyways... Epic, fun, cute, charming, all rolled into one. I would absolutely play a retro game with this kind of music, just to listen to the music lol. Interestingly enough, Curse of the Lost Eyes introduced me to Boxel Adventure, and I didn't know that I wanted to hear more songs like that until now, so thanks for that :). Side note: this was written before playing the charts, really curious to see how you got an 18 out of this haha | YES | 3 points (would be 10/10 with qualifier voting system) | [18] Me while playing the chart: "uhhh you sure this is an 18? This feels like a 17..." *gets to the middle part* "ahhh okay I see. Still an easy 18 but I get it" I appreciate your use of crossovers in this one; sparingly, but when used makes total sense. Thank you for not making this into Trash Clan 2.0. (no offense Kekkle if you are reading this. For the record, Trach Clan good, I'm just saying that I feel that this ain't the song to make into a crossover extravaganza) Those gimmicks in the middle are pretty cool. Screwed me over on sightread, but got it after that. Love 'em. Most fun VanEden chart I've ever played :) (No this is not necessarily my hard chart bias speaking. FWIW Stuck in the Suburbs, Played-A-Live (The Bongo Song), and the BR2020 version of Boxel Adventure are the other three in my top four VanEden files) | [16] Hmmm this felt like you copy/pasted the CSP, mirrored it, and simplified the really hard parts. Either that or the other way around. I mean I personally don't mind, especially considering both are still very good charts in their own rights. Plus I probably should not assume that that actually was the case. | [13] Quite easy for a 13, with the exception of that one 16th drill. 12, maybe? Anyways, decent chart. Kinda gave off ビビットストレーム ESP vibes but faster, without the galloping and yet still spicier. | [10] Pretty much as good of a 10 as anyone can get out of this song as far as I can honestly tell. Not much else to say really. | [Rub-a_Dub-a_but_in_a_minor_key.ogg] |
