After running these workshops for athletes for many years, we are excited to share these workshops with more students. | 7:30pm-9:30pm, Hallock Auditorium, Exploring Childhood Sexual Abuse Survivorship and Resilience Through Short Film Join Oberlin alum Lexie Bean for a film screening of two of short films made alongside other grads of '13. This includes "A Scavenger Hunt For People Loneliest In Their Own Homes" and "The Ship We Built", which was later developed into an award-winning novel with Penguin Random House. Both projects take imaginative, even playful approaches to Lexie's lived experiences. The screening and brief excerpt reading will be paired with a brief chat with Lexie. All are welcome. | 12:15-1:30pm, MRC Lounge MOVED: Wilder 320, Beyond the Heroic Survivor: Dating Edition, with guest and alum Lexie Bean - Romantic partners are on the front-lines for survivor support, yet most resources tend to focus on survivors and not resources for the people who love them. There can be a great fear in getting it wrong, not knowing everything, and a greater risk of a survivor educating their partner as a form of self-defense. This is a moment of self-compassion and honoring the labor that comes with love as we go into some nuances of short term care, long term care, and physical intimacy. This event is facilitated by an Oberlin alum who will also bring their experience as a trans person and childhood sexual abuse survivor. Attendance is encouraged for all genders and relationship statuses. 16 | 8-10 pm, Peters Hall, SOSHA: Take Back the Night - Take Back the Night is a global movement and annual event that advocates for safer communities and an end to sexual violence. It typically includes marches, rallies, and survivor speak-outs, providing a space for individuals to share their experiences and demand action against gender-based violence. The event empowers survivors and allies to reclaim public spaces without fear. | 4:30-6:30pm, King 227, The Nord Center with PRSM/SOSHA, Trauma Informed Workshop: Join aavi Ybarra (He/They) and Alex Rumph (She/Her) from the Nord Center in learning strategies to best work with and/or support survivors of sexual assault with a trauma informed approach. If you are in leadership on campus, have a personal connection, or are just curious, this workshop is for you! Taught by extremely educated individuals, you will learn relevant life skills. | 12-3pm, Wilder Bowl, SOSHA: Denim Day - Denim Day is an annual event held in April to raise awareness about sexual violence and victim-blaming. It began in response to a controversial Italian court ruling that overturned a rape conviction, arguing that the victim’s tight jeans implied consent. Participants wear denim to stand in solidarity with survivors and challenge harmful misconceptions about sexual assault. | 7-8pm, Wilder 215, SOHSA, Listen Session: Take Back the Night & Denim Day Debrief: This is a peer-support session led by Survivors of Sexual Harm and Allies (SOSHA) that is for survivors, allies, and anyone who attended Take Back the Night or Denim Day events.
